BTech Course Overview

BTech is a four-year highly demanded undergraduate engineering course offering rewarding prospects to students. The full form of BTech is Bachelor of Technology. Approximately 10 lakh engineering students graduate annually in India from 2,500 engineering and 1,300 polytechnic colleges. This course is available under BTech specializations such as BTech Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering to trending fields like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. BTech Admission Process in India 2024

Candidates who want to enroll in a BTech course need to follow the stages mentioned below.

  1. For admission to BTech courses, it is mandatory for a candidate to appear for an entrance exam. Some of the national-level entrance exams are JEE Main for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and some private colleges. 
  2. To get admission to IITs, candidates have to appear for JEE Advanced.
  3. Other state-level entrance exams such as WBJEE, KEAM, AP EAMCET, TS EAMCET, and MHT CET and university-level exams such as BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE are usually chosen by the candidates based on the choice of the college.
  4. The BTech entrance exams usually occur every year in April, May, and June.
  5. After the conclusion of the exams, the authorities conduct the counselling and seat allotment procedures. Candidates can select their chosen college based on the rank acquired by them and the availability of seats.
  6. After the admission formalities are done, candidates will have to report to their respective colleges by paying the prescribed BTech fees.

BTech Lateral Entry Procedure

BTech Lateral Entry is for candidates who have already completed their Diploma in Engineering or a B.Sc degree. Therefore, candidates will get direct entry in the third semester of the BTech, requiring the candidate to appear in an entrance based procedure. For entrance to B Tech Lateral Entry Courses, candidates must complete their B.Sc or Diploma degree in engineering with a minimum of 45% aggregate where a relaxation of 5% is given to the candidates belonging from the reserved category. Some of the BTech Lateral Entry entrances are Haryana LEET, Assam JLEE, JELET, PU LEET, etc.

BTech Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to pursue BTech are advised to check the BTech eligibility criteria before filling out the BTech application form so that they do not miss out on anything and regret it at the last minute. The eligibility criteria for BTech may vary from institute to institute and have been discussed below.

  • Candidate should have completed 10+2 or equivalent examinations from a recognized board like CBSE, ICSE, etc.

Direct BTech Admission Process Without Entrance Examinations

Candidates who do not wish to appear for any exam but pursue a BTech can be admitted to their desired institutions through a direct entry procedure. Access to direct BTech universities can be done through Management Quota, NRI Quota, Lateral Entry, and Institute-Specific Criteria. 

  • Management Quota: Some private engineering colleges like Delhi Technical Campus (DTC), Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, etc. have a special quota called the Management Quota, which allows for direct entry to their courses. However, the fees for this quota are often higher compared to regular entry.
