AICTE Chairperson, Mr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe stressed the importance of industry-interaction and innovation in engineering education. He was addressing the students at a workshop organised by a private engineering college on January 27, 2019. During his interaction with students, Mr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe encouraged students to come up with innovative ideas and focus on entrepreneurship.
AICTE Chief also directed engineering colleges to implement internships for engineering students so that students gain required work experience and skills. Internships to engineering students will minimise the unemployment rate in India, he added.

AICTE Chief further indicated that the council made major changes in the approval process for technical institutes. AICTE is inviting applications from the existing technical institutes and new technical institutes for conducting engineering and management programmes for the academic session 2019-20. Interested institutes can go through the handbook and apply for the approval process, he explained.
AICTE has initiated several measures for improving the quality of engineering education in India. For this purpose, internships have been made mandatory so that students gain work experience and skills. Similarly, AICTE has revamped the curriculum of engineering courses to meet the industry requirements. The updated syllabus of engineering courses includes topics on latest technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning.

AICTE is also planning to reduce the vacant seats in engineering courses across the country. One of the major challenges that AICTE is facing is a huge number of vacant seats in engineering colleges across the country over the last three years.
