Established in 1968, Capilano University (CapU) is an Open University.  It gained the status of a university in 2008. The university was founded by school boards of West Vancouver, North Vancouver and Howe Sound. Initially, Capilano University began with 784 students. The university was approved by the provincial government and named by the submissions made from the North Shore residents. The University got its accreditation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). CapU is ranked 61 in Canada and 2385 in the world.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Capilano University is located in North Vancouver, British Columbia, which is the main campus. A number of faculties are located on this campus. It is surrounded by lush green bushes and features a calm environment. The campus is known to provide all the necessary facilities required by the students. The university offers undergraduate degree programs and dual degree programs. It includes a wide range of courses. Film and animation are among the top subjects. The variety of courses gives students the opportunity to choose as per their areas of interest. Capilano provides accredited undergraduate degree programs in Liberal Studies, Business Administration, Tourism, Visual Communication, Music Therapy, Performing Arts and Childhood Education.

The Office of Institutional Research aims to align Capilano University (CapU) with its mission and vision by informing and supporting our decision-makers and by contributing to the university’s strategic planning process. With CapU’s mission and vision being central to the functions of the office, Institutional Research provides performance metrics, as well as a broad spectrum of research and analysis about the university to decision-makers and partners.  

The university has a list of famous alumni that includes Godfrey Gao (Famous Canadian-Taiwanese model and actor), Elicia MacKenzie (Theatre actress), Camilla d'Errico (Comic book illustrator), Charles Van Sandwyk (Renowned writer), Rainer Andreesen (Popular actor), Joel Fafard (Renowned guitarist), Steve Rolston (Comic book writer) and Tobin Frank (Famous musician).

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Capilano University gets approximately 12,700 students each year onboard, 9,000 in for-credit programs, approximately 1,200 in non-credit courses, and 2,500 international students from 80 countries. The university is welcoming towards students coming from different parts of the world and embraces diversity. Companies coming for recruitment and internship are Facebook, Oracle, TD Bank, Four Seasons, Scotia Bank and many more.
