Confederation College is an applied arts and technology institute that is provincially funded. It was established in 1967. It is the only public college in Northwestern Ontario. It is a leader in indigenous education. 

Confederation is a public college established under the Ontario College System. It has various accreditations including CDAC for its program in Dental Health Hygiene. The college of tourism holds SMART accreditation for exceeding the industry standards. The college also holds affiliation from Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) and Colleges and Institutes in Canada (CICan). 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The main campus of Confederation College is at Thunder bay which is spread over 130 acres of land. It has green lush parks and gardens and a beautiful river. The campus is home to 4 buildings with 3-bedroom apartment style residences offered at Spruce and Cedar Residences. The Sibley Hall residence is home to a minimum of 229 students every year. The Thunder bay International Airport is also the facility where Confederation College has its school of aviation. 

Confederation College offers 60 full time programs to choose from. It offers 165 programs at the postsecondary level including Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and Bachelor degrees and PG courses. The most popular programs are Aerospace, Business, Dental Hygiene, HRM and ICT, etc. 

Accomplishments & Alumni

In 2017, Confederation College joined the Canadian Bureau for International Education’s (CBIE) Learning Beyond Borders initiative to get more Canadian students to take advantage of learning experiences in other countries. Confederation Alumni Community has more than 100,000 alumni from around the world. Some of the well-known alumni are Al Bourbouhakis – Founder (Heartbeat Hot Sauce), Tony Martin – Member of House of Commons, Trent Opaloch – Cinematographer, Norm Foster – a Canadian Playwright and many more. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

As of the 2019-20 fall intake it holds an enrolment of 3299 full time students with 1033 international students representing over 60 countries from around the world. The student body at Confederation College constitutes a huge population of international and indigenous students. 

Confederation College being the only public college in Northwestern Ontario holds a great reputation among the employers. It has an employment rate of 87% and employer satisfaction at 93% with superb salaries for the graduates. Top hirers include Walmart, Bombardier, City of Thunder Bay and Air Canada to name a few.
