History, Affiliations & Rankings

Hangzhou Normal University started in 1908 as Zhejiang Official Level-Two Normal School. With time, the university underwent changes and emerged as Zhejiang’s pioneer in Science and Democracy. On the basis of Hangzhou Normal School, Hangzhou Teachers College was formed in 1978. HZNU is recognised by WHO (World Health Organisation) and MCI (Medical Council of India). Hangzhou Normal University was ranked #3 by ‘Best Chinese Universities Ranking’ and #6 in ‘Asia University Rankings’ by QS Ranking 2020.     

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Coming to the academic profile of the university, Hangzhou Normal University offers 141 Bachelor’s, 309 Master’s, 274 Doctoral programmes and over 140 Global Study Programmes. In total, the university offers over 8,000 courses. All of these courses are offered across 7 campuses of HZNU. The campus of the university is built over 1,450 acres of land. HZNU has five libraries that hold more than 7.7 million titles to its name. The university has two International Joint Institutes, 7 affiliated hospitals, over 1 lac plant specimens, more than 150 student associations, one career centre with 36 divisions and many museums.  

Accomplishments & Alumni 

Ever since its inception, the university has imparted knowledge to a number of students and included over 6 lac students to its alumni list. Hangzhou Normal University has over 110 partner universities for global studies. It is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university has worked on over 900 projects for the National Natural Science Fund and 60+ projects for the National Social Science Fund. HZNU has 35 varsity sports and participated in about 124 national championships in the course of three years. The university has won four national awards for artistic performances. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

43.4 per cent of the total student population of Hangzhou Normal University are females whereas, 57.6% are males. The university houses 39 different ethnic groups and has students from 140 different countries. HZNU has enrolled over 25,000 undergraduate students, 29,000+ graduate students and over 7,000 international students.
