Applying for Students Visa in Holland

Students who belong to a non-European country and planning to stay in Holland for more than 90 days must read the following guidelines to apply for a student visa to Holland.

There are two parts associated with the Visa Application Process. Provisional Residence Permit (MVV) and Residence Permit.

Provisional Residence Permit

Provisional Residence Permit also called as ‘Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblifj’ (MVV). MVV is required for students who are planning to stay in the country for six months. MVV acts as a document to show temporary Dutch resident for the students from abroad. During this period, the student is not treated as a tourist but a potential resident of the country.

Students can apply for MVV through the host institute. The applicant must fill in a complete application form and pay the application fees for the same. The application fees for Provisional Residence Permit varies university- wise. It is recommended that international students apply for Provisional Residence Permit at least three months before planning to arrive in the country.

Residence Permit

Once MVV of the student is confirmed, the university or institute applies for a Residence Permit for the student. The application procedure starts within five days of arrival at the university. The candidate will have to pay a minimum amount of fees for Residence Permit.

Student can collect Residence Permit from a National Immigration Body Office within two weeks of stay in the country. Students who receive permit must register with the Local Council. Residence Permit is valid until the student completes their study in the country. Additional three months is given by the university to terminate a student's enrollment from the university.
