With 84 years of existence, the North Kazakhstan State University (NKSU) is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The university, named after Academician Manash Kozybayev, was established in 1937 by the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. Formerly named Petropavlovsk Teachers Training Institute, the university was given the status of a state university in 2001. The university is accredited by the NMC (National Medical Commission), the WHO (World Health Organization) and the Ministry of Science and education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At present, it is the leading multi-disciplinary higher education institution in the North Kazakhstan region.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The North Kazakhstan State University offers an MBBS programme that is recognised by the WHO and the NMC. The MBBS programme at the institution is taught by renowned doctors and medical specialists. Currently, the university offers 117 educational programmes, 77 of which are nationally accredited and 7 of which are internationally accredited by the ASIIN. The campus of NKSU is located in Petropavl, Kazakhstan. Petropavl city, also known as Petropavlovsk, is located on the Ishim River in northern Kazakhstan, close to the Russian border. The NKSU campus has world-class infrastructure that includes well-equipped 9 academic buildings outfitted with modern technology. The university has everything to meet the needs of its students, from a well-stocked library to hostel facilities, medical laboratories, and computer labs.

NKSU is regarded as one of Kazakhstan’s top universities for MBBS as it offers quality education at an affordable cost. According to IQAA-Ranking, North Kazakhstan State University is ranked 11th in Kazakhstan's national ranking of best multidisciplinary universities in 2020. The university is ranked 15th in the 2020 ranking of higher education institutions of European standard (ARES). The educational program of North Kazakhstan State University has also taken 1st place for Communication and communications technology and 3rd place for Instrument Engineering in 2020 as per ICCR Rating.

The university currently has 7,621 students, a vast majority of which are international students.
