Altai State Medical University was established in 1954 by USSR government and initially named Altai Medical Institution. It was only in 1954 when it was renamed at Altai State Medical University by the order of Russian Health Ministry. All courses offered by the public university are accredited by the state government which also have the Certificate of Accreditation. The institution is also considered a primary healthcare centre, federal hightech care centre and specialised medical centre. Altai State Medical University is ranked 5122 in the 4icu world university ranking. The QS Global World Rankings 2021 of Altai State University (ASU) is 571-580.
Infrastructure, Campus & Courses
Located in Barnaul, the capital of Altai Krai, the university is spread across an area of about 986,000 sqm with a building area of around 238,000 sqm. The classrooms of the university are equipped with modern facilities; a huge library comprising 3,30,000 copies of journals, medical dissertations, etc.; sports facilities, on-campus hostel facilities, reading hall and more. Courses offered at the Altai State Medical University are divided into the major disciplines of pediatrics, dentistry, pharmacy, economics, management, stomatology, law, engineering and general medicine. The same are functioned by over 60 departments and seven faculties.

It is one of the leading universities in the region to provide training to students in both medical and non-medical streams. Every year around 13,000 undergraduate students and 3,000 postgraduate students complete their studies at Altai State University. Further, it has enrolled 300 residents, 180 interns and 100 graduates till date.
