Mari State University (MarSU) was founded in 1971 on approval by the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the RSFSR and became one of the youngest classical universities to be formed in Russia. MarSU is a large educational and scientific centre of the Republic of Mari El and the Volga Federal District. In 1985 - 1998, the Mari University acquired the main features of the established classical university and was headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor V.P. Ivshin. Since then MarSU has seen immense development to form a large republican and regional educational, scientific and cultural centre and trains thousands of students in the field of science and technology.

Mari State University (MarSU) is located at Yoshkar-Ola, Mari El Republic, Russia and is a world recognised centre of education, science and culture. The university houses 9 faculties, 6 institutes and 55 departments to offer courses in 104 areas of training and specialities in the fields of medicine, economics and management, digital technologies, natural/ agricultural & humanitarian sciences, pedagogy, law, physics and mathematics, culture and art. The medical sciences courses at MarSU are offered under the Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Natural Sciences and Pharmacy.
