Founded in the year 1920, the Smolensk State Medical University is about 360 kilometres (220 miles) west-southwest of Moscow, along the Dnieper River. It is regarded as one of Russia's best medical schools for MBBS students. MCI, WHO, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and other big countries recognise this university. Smolensk State Medical University is one of the low-cost top MBBS universities in Russia and also Russias largest medical institution to study MBBS from. On April 04th, 2020, the Smolensk State Medical University celebrated its 100th anniversary.The Russian Government renamed the Smolensk State Medical Academy to Smolensk State Medical University in the March of 2015.

Educational houses, messes, libraries, recreational centres, hostels parks andcultural complexes are all part of the Smolensk State Medical Universitys campus. For the protection of its students and grounds, the Smolensk State Medical University has its own protective monitoring system and commando guards. The university also operates 31 hospitals, out of which, 8 hospitals with approximately 6000 beds are used for student education. Smolensk State Medical University offers the 6-year (including 1-year internship) MBBS programme in both English and Russian mediums. In addition, the university offers a 5-year UG programme in Dental, 2 or 3-year postgraduation degree programme in medicine and surgery, 3-year PhD in medicine and surgery, 1-year Russian Langauge course and some short-term 6-month Russian Language courses.

Student Diversity & Employment Opportunities

A total of 1000 seats are available at the Smolensk State Medical University Faculty of Medicine each year, out of which 342 seats are reserved for students belonging to foreign countries. A team of 450 highly qualified teachers is continuously involved in the process of imparting world-class MBBS education to the students through the 08 faculties of the university and 65 departments. All of the above departments and faculties have Electronic Microscopes, Bio-Chemical Laboratories, Radio-Isotope Laboratories, and lecture halls with Tele-video and multimedia equipment.During their studies, students receive training in science and clinical practice. Smolensk State Medical University also conducts student exchange services with different healthcare facilities in the European Union.
