Voronezh State Medical University (VSMU) is one of the oldest medical schools in Russia, the foundation of which was laid in 1801. The funds for building and maintaining the university was raised by the Ministry of Public Education of the Russian Empire. VSMU was initially founded as the University of Dorpat and later in 1918 it was moved to Voronezh city and renamed Voronezh State Medical University. The Faculty of Medicine is an integral part of VSMU which became an independent medical institute in 1930. It was awarded the academy status in 1994 and finally, in 2015 it received the status of the university.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

At present, Voronezh State Medical University (VSMU) has 78 departments to offer courses in various areas of studies. Along with this, there are scientific institutes for areas of studies like dentistry, urology, surgical infection, cardiovascular pathology, Research Institute of Experimental Biology and Medicine. The other three educational and training institutes include nursing education, the international institute of medical education and cooperation. VSMU campus and building infrastructure is well designed to meet the needs of medical education and provide the best learning experiences to students. Currently, various courses at VSMU has 6 faculties and 4 educational institutions. The undergraduate courses offered at VSMU are divided into two stages i.e preclinical (1- 2 years) and clinical (3- 6 years).

The Voronezh State Medical University (VSMU) is a well-established institution known to provide quality education and modern scientific research facilities in the field of pharmacy, biology and medicine. VSMU boasts of renowned scientists, medical professionals, employees and graduates who have a significant contribution to society. Some of the members of VSMU who have a major contribution in the field of medical science include neuroscientist- ITSENKO N.M who investigated and described Itsenko-Cushing's disease. STUTZER M.I an Epidemiologist, microbiologist, healthcare organizer and Director and scientific leader of the Voronezh Scientific Research Sanitary and Bacteriological Institute is also the first head of the Department of Microbiology of the Medical Faculty of Voronezh State University. He discovered a new species of dysentery bacteria.

Student Diversity & Employment Opportunities

Voronezh State Medical University (VSMU) has a strength of more than 10,000 students, interns, graduates, doctoral students and residents. Apart from this, more than 600 faculty members work at various departments of VSMU. VSMU is an NMC recognised institution. The NMC which replaced MCI in 2020 has released draft regulations according to which foreign graduates will have to qualify for the new National Exit Test (NExT) within two years of completion of medical studies abroad. Thus qualified Indian students with a valid MBBS degree from VSMU can practice in India .
