Students can stay back in Canada after completing their MS. They simply need to apply for a Post Study Work Visa or PSW visa which shall enable them to extend their stay back in Canada for up to three years. It is mentionable here that this period of three years is a perk of being a STEM course graduate. Generally, this period is limited to six months to one and a half years. It is due to their high employability that STEM course graduates, such as MS degree holders, are allowed to stay back for up to three years.

PSW visas can be applied for with or without a job offer. It is advised that the application is made well before graduating, that is before the expiry of the Study Permit of Canada. Students can apply for Work Permit once they get a permanent job.

After a work permit, a Permanent Resident visa, or PR visa, can be applied for once enough time is passed, generally four to five years on a work permit. It becomes easier to get a PR visa grant through this route. The reason is high PR points due to the degree being a STEM-based one, it is achieved from a Canadian university, holding three Canadian visas successfully, and contribution to the Canadian economy through a permanent job, and finally living experience in Canada. Graduates can also get their employer to put in a nomination for them and make it all the easier to get the PR visa.
