After taking the ACT Exam, the next step is to wait for the ACT result to apply to universities abroad. ACT scores are detailed and divided into composite scores and section-wise scores. Overall, the test is scaled on a range of 1 to 36, and depending on the minimum ACT requirement of a specific institution, the candidate is shortlisted for further admission process.

Generally, it takes up to two to eight weeks to release the ACT scores after taking the test. The result of Multiple-Choice Questions taken on a computer is released within two business days, while the score for the writing section is usually released within the next two to three weeks. Scores are released online and those who take the ACT must know how to view, download, use and send ACT scores to the universities they are applying to.

ACT scores are accepted by popular universities like the University of Florida, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Central Florida, Boston University, Northeastern University, University of Colorado, etc.

What do ACT Scores Mean?

ACT Score Certificate is a detailed document, and can be broadly divided into two categories i.e Composite Score and Section-wise Scores. The Composite Score is the overall score of the candidate, and is considered as an official score in the ACT exam sat. The Section-wise Scores include scores of Maths, Science, English, Reading and Writing, as individual sections.

It is the average of all the four sections of English, Mathematics, Reading, Science. The composite score is scored on a scale of 1 to 36.

It is released along with the composite score. Each score is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. 

Writing Section

The Writing Section of ACT is scored on a scale of 2 to 12 and it is released separately.  

Detailed Result

For each section, there is a detailed reporting category. Each reporting category reflects the total number of questions asked in the category, the total number of questions answered correctly and the percentage of correctly answered questions.

How to Check ACT Scores 2022?

ACT 2022 scores are released online. To check the ACT score, you need to log in to the ACT account created at the time of ACT registration.

ACT scores are not sent through mail, chat, SMS, email or fax. It can only be accessed online. However, you can get in touch with the customer care executive to help you dictate the ACT score on the phone line. You must keep checking the notification for the release of the test by logging in to your ACT account.

When are ACT Scores Released?

• ACT multiple-choice scores are usually made available within two business days after taking the test using computer-based testing.

• Writing scores of ACT are typically released around two to three weeks after making multiple-choice scores available.

• Special testing score are generally issued two to ten weeks after the test date.

How is the ACT Scored?

ACT scores are different for the multiple-choice test and the writing test. Check out how ACT scoring is done;

• For multiple-choice tests, candidates are awarded +1 for every correct answer and no marks for a wrong answer.

• For a test of 60 questions, the highest raw ACT score of 60 can be secured. Similarly, for 40 questions, the highest raw ACT score of 40 can be achieved.

• These raw scores are converted into the scale of 1-36 (except writing test).

• It is done to nullify the chances of having effects of difficulty level variability as it is not possible to set question papers of same difficulty levels.

• The composite score is an average score of all the four rounds.

• Writing score is evaluated by 2 examiners on a scale of 1-6 on four domains namely development and support, language use and conventions, ideas and analysis and organization. In a nutshell, the writing section is scored on a scale of 2-12.

• Writing score of a candidate does not affect the composite score.

How Colleges Use ACT Scores?

ACT scores is used by colleges for following purpose: 

• Admissions: ACT scores amongst other factors such as academic record, future plans, etc. help colleges select candidates who fit the best for a given programme at the undergraduate level. 

• Course Placement: Universities may take into account scores obtained in the ACT to place applicants in first-year courses.

• Scholarships and loans: Several scholarships are granted to students based on ACT scores. 

What is a Good ACT Score?

After viewing your ACT scores, you might be wondering if it is a good enough score to get admission in top universities abroad. Well, quite clearly, a good ACT score is the one that fits within the range of scores your college usually looks for or accepts. The best way to find out if your ACT score is good enough or how you compete is by looking at the average ACT scores of the colleges you are applying to.

Instead of thinking of what a good ACT score is, you must prepare well for the test, identify your goal score and try to score as high as you can. On an average, if you have scored 21.8 on the ACT, you have scored higher than 50% of the test-takers, meaning you have a great chance at getting into the schools of your choice.

Another important point to consider is that only a good ACT score does not guarantee admission to a good college. Other factors like high school performance, application, statement of purpose, etc. also play a crucial role in college admissions abroad.

Average ACT Scores 2022

Each section in ACT is scored as per the point scale of 1 to 36. At the end of the test, the ability of an applicant is measured according to the composite score. The composite test is the average of all four sections. Students opting for the writing section receive the score of that section separately. It is scored in four different domains on the scale of 1-6 by two different graders. Can ACT Scores be Cancelled?

ACT has the authority to cancel ACT test scores if the scores are believed to be invalid. There is also the provision to voluntarily cancel your scores wherein ACT will cancel your scores upon request.

If they have already been sent to colleges/universities, then the ACT will notify the recipients that the scores have been canceled.
