The ACT exam dates differ for US national and Indian candidates. While candidates in the US, US territories and Puerto Rico follow ACT exam dates for the USA, the rest of the world including Indian candidates follow non-US exam dates.

The ACT exam is usually held on any two days of a month within a single testing window. Both the days have both morning and afternoon sessions. Session availability of both the exam days may vary as per the capacity of the test centres. Ideally, a candidate should choose an ACT exam date at least two months ahead of the scholarships and admissions deadlines.

In addition, all requests for accommodations (if required) should be submitted by the late registration deadline.

Scheduling ACT Exam Dates

Candidates who are planning to take the ACT test must ensure that they schedule the dates in advance. This will allow them enough time for exam preparation.

One of the most important things to consider before scheduling for the ACT exam is the admission deadlines of colleges or universities. Candidates should schedule the ACT exam as per the score release date and the university's admission deadline.  This is because most universities ask for ACT scores during the admissions process.

Points to Remember While Choosing the ACT Test Date

A lot of planning is involved in a study abroad application. Similarly, while giving your ACT exam, you should plan your every step carefully so that everything is ready when beginning the university application process. Here are some points to remember while selecting your ACT exam date:

  • Try scheduling the ACT after clearing the 10th standard, which teaches you the concepts of geometry and algebra among other things that are part of the ACT syllabus. However, in case you wish to attempt the test before the 10th, you can certainly give it a try just for practice.

  • Before registering, you must have a clear idea of your university admissions and application deadlines. Choose a test date at least 2-3 months before the application deadline. You should have your ACT score report in hand within 2-8 weeks of the test.

  • Start preparing for the test at least one year before the registration date.

  • Do not schedule it when you are preoccupied with other things.

  • It is advisable that you do not attempt the test more than three times, however, you can attempt the test a total of 12 times.

Which Month is Best for ACT?

Students get seven ACT test dates in a calendar year. They can take tests on any of these dates. For admission, it does not matter which test date the student has chosen. The university or college will accept the ACT test scores from all the test dates.

However, it is also important to select a test date that gives the student ample time to prepare without clashing with academic commitments. If the student is taking the ACT test for the first time, the best time to take the test is in the fall of their senior year. This gives them plenty of time to prepare and plan before the test.

Now, if a student wants to again take the ACT exam to improve their scores or for any other reason then they can definitely take it in the autumn or spring of their junior year. Students should ensure that they have at least three months in hand to prepare for the ACT exam.
