According to Foreign Minister Marise Payne, Australia will provide over USD 11 million for 4 years as part of its 'Maitri Fellowships Program' to support Indian students who wish to study inAustralia's renowned universities. During a joint press conference, Payne announced a number of new initiatives aimed at strengthening Australia's ties with India, including new educational initiatives.
Australia will also provide more than USD 6 million over four years to support cultural exchanges and boost the creative industries in both countries through the Maitri cultural partnerships, according to the Minister. It's appropriate to call these initiatives 'Maitri,' or friendship initiatives," she said.

Payne said at a press conference along with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that there are strong trade and investment ties between Australia and India.
As we stand here in Melbourne, Dan Tehan, the Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment are on his way back from talks in India on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). On the CECA agreement, Payne said both sides believe this agreement will unlock new business opportunities between the two countries, especially as both economies recover from the impact of Covid-19.
According to Payne, the Maitri program is positive for Australia's education sector, which recovered from the effects of Covid-19.
The Australian Foreign Minister emphasized the MOU was signed on Friday between the two countries in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Payne announced that the Australia-India Infrastructure Forum will provide a platform for Australian financiers to tap into the enormous infrastructure opportunities in India. Using this initiative, she said, the nation will conduct workshops and generate analyses to drive outcomes for businesses.
