Canadian Government's Scholarships Worth Over $10,000 for Exchange Students

The Canadian Government has announced scholarship opportunities for international exchange students aspiring to pursue higher studies or research work in the country. Those interested in accessing the scholarships must meet the necessary criteria.

Canadian Government's  Scholarships Worth Over $10,000 for Exchange Students

Offering international students an opportunity to study and pursue higher education, the Canadian Government will be offering scholarships to the batch of 2022 and 2023.

These scholarships have been designed to provide international students from different countries and territories to receive access to post-secondary institutions in Canada, on short-term exchanges for study and research purposes.

According to news reports, the student exchange programme will offer candidates a full degree-based study in the country with Canada Scholarships programme that had been curated in 2020. The report added that around 50 scholarships are expected to be conferred in the next competition, additionally, the number of scholarships will be increased each year.

However, those interested in the scholarships must satisfy the required criteria, qualifications and responsibilities. The selected institution in Canada will receive funding from DFATD for all successful candidates as a contribution agreement.

According to reports, the scholarship amount will vary depending on the level and duration of the study. For instance, students in college, undergraduate or graduate courses, studying for a minimum of four months or one term of study/research will receive CA$10,200 or graduate students pursuing studies for a span of 5-6 months of study/research, will receive CA$12,700.

Eligibility Criteria for Canadian Government Scholarships for Exchange Students

All prospective exchange students who are planning to pursue higher education with a Canadian higher education must satisfy the following eligibility criteria for Canadian Government scholarships for exchange students.

  • Students must be engaged in full-time studies/research according to Canadian institutions.

  • They should enter Canada between 1st August 2022 and 1st February 2023, to receive their scholarship award. Those who fail to do so will see their scholarships cancelled.

  • Students cannot find themselves in training or clinically-oriented research that is connected to direct patient care.

  • They will also need to focus primarily on research or full-time studies while they are staying in Canada.

  • Finally, students will be required to return home to their primary institution to complete their studies after the end of their scholarship period.

  • Focus primarily on full-time studies or research during their stay in Canada

Use of Canadian Government Scholarship Funds for Exchange Students

Students who receive these exchange student scholarships by the Canadian Government must use the funds for:

  • Books and other supplies that are required for study/research purposes, which exclude computers or other equipment.

  • Public transportation passes or other ground transportation expenses.

  • Health Insurance

  • Living costs which include food, utilities and accommodation

  • Air travel costs of the recipient only provided that the flight is the most direct and economical route available.

  • Application or other fees connected to visa, study or work permits.

According to the news report, applications for these scholarships must be submitted by 22nd March 2022 by the concerned parties.

Guidelines for the Canadian Government Scholarships for Exchange Students

There are certain guidelines and regulations that need to be followed in order to receive the scholarship, which has been defined as follows.

  • Scholarship applications must be submitted by Canadian institutions on behalf of the eligible candidates.

  • The Scholarship scheme should be promoted among faculty, staff members along with partner institutions from eligible countries/territories.

  • The applications should be ranked according to the institutions strategic priorities.

  • Institutions must identify a single person to take up the responsibility of submitting the applications.

  • Institutions should also sign a Contribution Agreement with DFATD and distribute the scholarship funds to the successful candidates.

  • The Institutions will also be required to provide quantitative and qualitative reports during the span of the scholarship period.

News reports also highlighted that the scholarships cannot be deferred nor be renewed. Additionally, the availability of the scholarships will be dependent on the availability of funds from the Canadian Government.
