The business school of City, University of London, formerly known as Cass Business School, has been renamed as Bayes Business School after a famous theologian and mathematician named Thomas Bayes.

City, University of London’s Business School has been renamed as Bayes Business School before the commencement of the 2021-22 academic year. The school, previously known as Cass Business School , made the decision to increase its focus on equity, diversity and inclusion.

The business school has been renamed after Thomas Bayes who was a theologian and mathematician and the person behind Bayes' Theorem, which suggests the constant updation of belief in order to get closer to the truth. The selection of Bayes’ name was done after a comprehensive consultation with staff, students, partners and alumni.

Apart from the new name, the b-school is also undergoing a complete review in its curriculum to ensure that Bayes educates professionals and leaders who eventually work towards an equitable and sustainable future.

Julia Palca, Chair of City’s Council, said in a statement that the decision to rename the b-school marked the beginning of a new chapter and reflected the values of the university. Further, it is an important step to address “racial inequality'' across the university and a commitment to ensure that it is a diverse place to study and work.
