'Graduate Route to Help Fill Million Job Vacancies in the UK'

In a new report, Universities UK highlighted that more graduates are required to fill up around one million jobs and that the UK Graduate Route will benefit both employers and international students.

UK’s graduate route, launched in July 2021, was a big step taken for the sake of international students looking for employment opportunities in the UK. International students have huge potential to contribute to the companies in the UK by utilizing the skills they develop during their graduate studies.

Universities UK busted the myth about the oversaturation of UK graduate markets and that the employers give little importance to degrees. Rather, the report claimed that there are more than one million more professional jobs available in the labour market than workers who have degrees to fit the position.

Steve West, president of UUK and vice-chancellor of UWE Bristol, commented that students have the right to know if going to the university will prove beneficial for them and whether the investment is worthwhile. He was optimistic that the demand for UK graduates increased year on year and will rise in the future.

PWC recently analysed that artificial intelligence will increase the demand for graduates by 10% and demand for those in IT, healthcare and marketing will rise.

The Universities UK report also found that there is a 20% higher vacancy in the number of graduate jobs than it was in 2019. In 2022, the vacancies are expected to increase by 22% more than in 2021. Critical thinking, communication, and leadership are transferable employability skills that are in high demand among employers. The higher education sector is a major contributor to nurturing these skills in the students which are suitable for the changing needs of the market.

Stephen Isherwood, chief executive at the Institute of Student Employers predicted that in both the short term and long term the demand for skilled graduates will increase and it is the need of the hour to invest in graduate talents.

It is still essential to understand the employment expectations and the outcomes of international graduates.
