Indian Embassy in Beijing has issued a fresh and detailed advisory on studying medicine in China as thousands of students are stuck at home amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Chinese visa ban has affected nearly 23,000 students enrolled in various Chinese medical schools.
The embassy in a statement announced that they have been receiving queries from several prospective Indian students and parents with respect to undergraduate clinical medical programmes in Chinese universities.

In July, China said that the country is working with various departments and progressing towards facilitating the return of the first batch of Indian students.
Indian embassy also shared a study conducted by the National Board of Examination that between 2015 and 2021, 6387 out of 40,417 students cleared the FMG examination. The statement further highlighted that only 16% of students from 45 Chinese universities were able to pass the examination.
The advisory has also warned against the need to learn the state's official language, lack of gaining practical experience and strict rules of practising in India after completion of the medical degree.
The advisory has asked students to check whether the universities they are applying to are included in the list of 45 universities which teach in English and are allowed to admit international students. Students cannot join universities where the medium of instruction is Chinese.
The medical aspirants also need to be alert about other aspects such as the duration of the course, the language of instruction, mode of teaching, curriculum, visa requirements, fees and others before planning to study medicine in China.

The Dynamic Zero Covid Policy of China causes various restrictions and quarantine rules that differ from one city to another and demand full compliance.
Also, the advisory said that those students who have cleared NEET-UG for admission to undergraduate medical programmes will be allowed to sit for the screening test, FMGE.
