A recent report by QS revealed that 50% of the surveyed international students are of the view that universities should issue COVID-19 vaccination requirements for students before allowing them to enter the study destination.

50% of International Students Support Universities' Requirement for Vaccinations of All Students

A recent report published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds based on 2,513 international students from 153 countries pointed out that 50% of them wish for universities to require students to get vaccinated before they are allowed to enter the country.

The report pointed out that 23% of the current and prospective international students were not in favour of the measure and 27% were unsure, while some 65% of them wanted to take a vaccine and 10% were not willing to do the same.

Of the 10%, almost 4% agreed to take the vaccine only if the university they were enrolled at required them to have it before travelling abroad.

QS marketing director Paul Raybould emphasised on the importance of vaccination of students as countries are working towards ramping up their vaccination programs and reopening their economies.

It is important particularly now for universities to give out a clear and effective decision as students are unsure of their decision regarding having Covid-19 vaccination as a requirement to study abroad.

In the US, universities such as Rutgers announced in March that all students were required to be vaccinated before returning to campus for the Fall 2021 semester. Also, Northeastern University has announced similar measures, providing assistance to international students who are not able to get vaccinated before arriving on campus.

Europe's University of Gibraltars Vice Chancellor said that the university has offered the vaccine to all students as well as teaching staff, meaning that they have been successful in shifting back on in-person learning and offering an excellent student experience.

The report further shed light on the attitude of international students regarding online teaching. Around one in five respondents reported that they preferred online learning to on-campus classes, while a 23% of them said they did not have any preference.

The data also revealed that 63% of the students had attended online classes at night.

Another QS survey based on higher education professionals pointed out that 55% of them had introduced flexible schedules to let students study and attend classes according to their convenience.

However, it is significant to announce further action given that most of the students had to attend online classes at night.
