He added that the safe return would include the return of lectures with some modifications to some mitigation measures and overall numbers. The next academic year is also expected to be started afresh with all staff and students back on campus.

Those arriving will either be allowed to return straight to campus or go to campus to quarantine. Those who are returning from one of the six South American countries, they will be asked to quarantine in a government-assigned hotel.

This year, the arrangements had to consider vaccinations of students arriving in the country. While students would be easily able to get vaccines, if they have already been vaccinated, they would have to check if that vaccine was approved by the European Medicines Agency.

On campus, students would have to wear face masks and abide by the national rules on vaccine passports.

As of September 20, Ireland has allowed universities to open clubs and societies with a maximum capacity of 100 vaccinated students. Lectures will have a limit of 300 students, crossing which, should be conducted online.
