JSS Medical College Announces Free Bridge Course for Ukraine-returned Indian Students

In a bid to support Indian medical students displaced from Ukraine, JSS Medical College in Mysore has announced a free bridge course for such students as permissible under the law.

The decision was taken by Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt to help thousands of Indian students evacuated from the war-torn country Ukraine in February this year.

According to reports, the students will be trained as per the semester of year they were pursuing in Ukraine. All theory and practical classes will be conducted at JSS Medical College, along with clinical observation with skill training with help of skills labs and virtual case scenarios

Associate Professor of Community Medicine at JSS Medical College Dr Sunil Kumar said that no fees will be charged for these students, however, they have to make their own arrangements for accommodation. He said that students from any part of the country can be a part of this programme

Kumar added that this facility is also available for students who were pursuing medical courses in China and Russia and are unable to return to the countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Kumar said that they are trying to compensate for the academic loss by providing everything except handling the patients because it is not allowed as per norms, but they can observe the patients. Moreover, there will not be any exams for them. So, all they want from these students is to take the opportunity in the best possible manner as it is extended for free.

Now, students will get to attend the remaining classes based on their course or they may also join for a field visit which is done as a part of their curriculum.
