O. Panneerselvam, the AIADMK coordinator, has asked the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to modify the requirements for Ukraine-returned medical students to seek admission to medical institutes without having to take the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

The leader also congratulated PM Modi for bringing back around 14,000+ Indian medical students (almost 1,900 of them are from Tamil Nadu) who were studying in war-torn Ukraine.
Mr Panneerselvam referred to the National Medical Commission (NMC) rules in a letter dated June 6, 2022, permitting only those who had passed the NEET to be admitted to the country's medical colleges. He also claimed that Ukraine-returned students should be treated differently when it comes to finishing their education in the country.
According to Pannerselvam, the circumstance makes it difficult for Ukraine-returned MBBS students to get admission to Indian medical colleges.
He has further asked PM Modi to intervene and encourage the NMC to waive the rule as a unique instance so that Ukraine-returned MBBS students might continue their medical studies in the country.
In another letter, he mocked the current DMK administration in Tamil Nadu, claiming that Chief Minister MK Stalin penned a letter to the Prime Minister in March 2022 requesting a solution to the problem. However, no pressure was applied to the Union government, and no ministers were deployed to Delhi to achieve a good outcome. As stated in the letter, this demonstrates that the DMK government does not care about the students and has written a letter as a formality.
He also stated that the DMK government has the 'responsibility and obligation' to secure a waiver in this regard from the Union government.
