Negative COVID-19 Test Mandatory for International Students Travelling to Canada

The Government of Canada has released an official statement according to which international students travelling to Canada will have to show COVID-19 negative test report failing which they will not be allowed to board the flight.

The Government of Canada recently announced an official rule for international students travelling to Canada in the upcoming days. According to the statement, those who are travelling by plane to Canada must show a negative COVID-19 test before boarding the flight. The new rule will be effective from January 7.

Marc Garneau, the Minister of Transport said that the Canadian government is committed to ensuring the health and safety of people in Canada. He further said that the new guidelines will help them limit the spread of COVID 19 and its variant in Canada.

Official Rules and Guidelines

Check the following pointers associated with the new travel rules for those who are planning their visit to Canada:

  • The COVID 19 test must be done within 72 hours prior to the travelling schedule.

  • The test must be performed using a Covid-19 molecular polymerase chain reaction (or PCR) test.

  • Those who will receive a negative test will still have to take e 14 days mandatory quarantine in Canada.

  • The quarantine plans will be reviewed by a government official or by a federal quarantine facility.

  • The travellers will violate the rules and will have to face up to six months and/ or a fine of $75000.

Patty Hajdu, the Minister of Health said that Canada had been making strong decisions since the emergence of Covid-19 to prevent COVID 19 cases and that they work together to save lives. He further urged people to follow the public health guidelines to protect themselves, their loved ones and the community.
