Starting November 16, 2021, the duration of PTE Academic will be two hours instead of three hours and candidates will now be able to take the test from the comfort of their home. No changes have been made to the overall format, scoring scale and question types.
The reduced length of the test will offer candidates an improved experience whilst the accuracy of the test remains the same.
The modified test will still be accepted by over 3,000 academic institutions worldwide, organisations, professional bodies and various governments. Pearson has, however, requested all test-takers to check if the universities they are applying to accept the online test before registering for the test.
The newly-launched PTE academic online test will be exactly the same as the offline test. It will only be offered as an online proctored option visa Pearson’s OnVUE solution for students who wish to take the test remotely.
Need Help With Preparing for the PTE Academic?
Senior vice president, English language learning at Pearson mentioned that many PTE Academic candidates wish to go abroad for higher studies or better job opportunities. A shorter PTE Academic test and an online version of it will help them in their journey.
The online test can be taken in every country except for China, Cuba and Iran although Pearson anticipates launching the new online test in China in 2022.
Recently, Pearson also launched its remotely proctored Versant English Language, a test popular among universities, said Thomas Monk.
Stakeholders have earlier said the COVID-19 pandemic has “catapulted” the online assessment sector into the future. Young students across the world have the same dreams of studying and working abroad and with international borders reopening, Pearson is hoping for an immediate response from customers to take tests, said Thomas Monk.
