University of Alberta Scholarship Deadlines for International Students for 2023

The University of Alberta (U of A or UAlberta) has declared its scholarship deadlines for international students looking forward to applying in the academic year 2023-24. U of A is one of the top five Canadian universities as well as one of the top 150 universities across the world.

With nearly 41,000 international students from 156 countries, the University of Alberta offers more than 200 undergraduate and 500 graduate programmes to international students in 300 research areas at its five campuses.

As stated by the university, one in every five international first-year students receives a scholarship at U of A. Every year, the University of Alberta distributes roughly CAD 34 million among undergraduate scholarships, awards, and financial aid to students of all backgrounds, whether they are high achievers in the classroom, active members of the community, or all-around learners. Additionally, there are a plethora of scholarships available to international graduate students as well.

University of Alberta Undergraduate Scholarship Deadlines 2023

The U of A has two types of scholarships for undergraduate students, namely admission-based and application-based. The following are the undergraduate scholarship deadlines of the University of Alberta for 2023:

Eligibility for Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Alberta

Freshmen students are either automatically considered for scholarships or they can apply for certain awards or bursaries depending. Candidates can apply for scholarships or awards only after completing their undergraduate application process. Once the application form is submitted, students can apply for the different types of scholarships if they meet these eligibility criteria:

Admission-based scholarships: In these types of scholarships, candidates are not required to fill out an application form separately for applying. This means that a candidates eligibility will automatically be evaluated by the Admissions Committee after they submit their application to get enrolled at the university. A candidates eligibility will be determined by their high school admission average. That said, if a candidate gets eligible for admission-based scholarships, UAlberta will get in touch with them directly.

Application-based scholarships: In these types of scholarships, candidates are required to fill out a single application form provided by the university. This form needs to be filled out by the candidate based on their academics, background, experiences, interests, etc. After this, UAlberta will access the applicant to match this repleted information to a number of available scholarships.

Note: Admission offers for application-based scholarships will be made in the early winter intake of 2023.

University of Alberta Graduate Scholarship Deadlines 2023-24

The University of Alberta graduate scholarships are administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) which is also responsible for awarding external Doctoral Research Awards and fellowships. Eligibility for Graduate Scholarships at the University of Alberta

The U of As eligibility for graduate scholarships varies depending upon a candidates desired programme to which they are applying, their academic excellence, citizenship, GPA, etc. The following are the common eligibility criteria for graduate scholarships at the University of Alberta:

  • A candidate must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5.

  • A candidate must be registered at a recognised Canadian university at the time of application.

  • A candidate must be a permanent resident of Canada by the time of the application deadline or must be studying on a Canada study permit. However, some awards are not restricted to citizenship.

  • A candidate must have not previously received a doctoral-level fellowship or scholarship from NSERC, CIHR or SSHRC (for the doctoral award application process).

  • A candidate must demonstrate community engagement, leadership, extracurricular activities, volunteerism, etc.

How to Apply for University of Alberta Scholarships?

The application process to apply for a scholarship at the UAlberta varies for undergraduate and graduate applicants. Check out the following steps to apply for scholarships at the university:

For UG programme: For undergraduate admission-based scholarships, students are not required to separately fill out the application form for their anticipate scholarship. Students will automatically be eligible and evaluated for these scholarships as they apply for their undergraduate degree programme at UAlberta.

However, for application-based scholarships, it is recommended that students should fill out the single application form provided by the university as early as possible. For this, prospective students should visit the official website of the U of A.

For PG programme: For some PG scholarships, candidates are not required to fill out any separate application form. Eligible students will automatically be considered for scholarships based on a candidate's academic level of excellence. On the other hand, applications for all other PG scholarships can be made through the official website of the university. Hence, it is advisable that candidates should check the University of Alberta's official website for detailed information about scholarships offered for their desired programmes.
