The global authority in education rankings, US News and World Report, published the Best Global Universities Rankings on October 24, 2022. The ranking evaluates 2,000 schools on the basis of academic research and reputation.
In the previous year, 1700 schools were evaluated. The 2023 edition includes universities from 95 countries across the globe which is an increase from 90 countries last year. The countries which have the most schools are China (338), the United States (280), Japan (105), the United Kingdom (92) and India (81).

The rankings do not separately focus on undergraduate or graduate programmes. Moreover, there are 47 separate subject rankings in fields like clinical medicine, engineering and computer science which is an increase from 43 in 2022.
The four new subjects that have been added this year are education and educational research, artificial intelligence, water resources and meteorology and atmospheric sciences and have ranked 100 schools in these subjects.
US News and World Report use bibliometric indicators such as citations and publications.
The Chief Data Strategist at US News, Robert Morse said that the Best Global Universities rankings offerstudents a powerful tool to explorehigher education options outside their home country.
