Michigan Technological University was founded in 1885 as Michigan Mining School, which was transformed into Michigan Technological University in 1964. MTU  is a public research university located in Houghton, Michigan, United States, accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1928. The university was reaccredited in 2012 under the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). The top-tier public research university holds a global rank within the range of  651-700 in QS World University Rankings. In 2018, the university was ranked 1st by SmartAsset in its Best Value Colleges ranking list and 1st among the top best value colleges by Niche.com in 2019.

Michigan Technological University has a beautiful campus that extends across an area of 925 acres. Students on campus can benefit from a wide range of services and facilities that help them build their personalities. One can join sports clubs, student organizations, adventure clubs or on-campus music and fine arts for personality development. Students can choose to stay in lively and safe on-campus residences. The four on-campus housing options at MTU range from traditional residence halls to apartment-style living. MTU has 7 Colleges and Schools that offer more than 140 degree programmes in fields like Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics, among others.

University’s Alumni Board of Directors recognises extraordinary students with alumni and honour. The Alumni community of Michigan Technological University comprises 74,000 people. Some of the notable alumni of  MTU are Melvin Calvin- Nobel laureate and discoverer of the Calvin Cycle,  David Edwards- biomedical engineering professor at Harvard, Bhakta B. Rath, material physicist and Padma Bhushan recipient, David Hill, former Chief Engineer for the Chevrolet Corvette etc.
