Southern Illinois University (SIU) was founded in 1869 as the second teacher’s college in  Carbondale, Illinois. It is the flagship campus of the Southern Illinois University System. SIU has a dedicated team of athletes representing Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The variety of SIU’s athletic team is famously known as Southern Illinois Salukis. SIU is a comprehensive public research university that recently earned the prestigious community engagement classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Southern Illinois University, Carbondale is ranked No. 263 in National Universities ranking by U.S News & Reports Ranking.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses  

The beautiful campus of SIU is located sixty miles to the south of Carbondale. Two state parks, four large recreational lakes and the Crab Orchard National Wildlife are situated in the vicinity of the university’s campus. SIU has multiple twelve Colleges to offer courses in various areas of discipline like Business and Analytics, Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics, Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences, Arts and Media, Liberal Arts, Education, Law, Health and Human Sciences, Medicine, Automotive and Aviation.

Alumni of SIU comprises innovative and successful people in different fields. Some of the notable alumni of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale are Adrian Matejka, poet, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award in poetry, Jenny McCarthy- actress, model and television host, Open Mike Eagle- hip hop artist and comedian, Joan Higginbotham- astronaut, Hannibal Buress- stand up comedian, actor, writer and producer to name a few. The Alumni of SIU are a part of a collaborative and supportive community. Graduates stay connected to help others with job opportunities or financial aid. They are also a part of events, volunteering, career advice sessions and seminars conducted at the university. Student Diversity & Visiting Companies 

Thousands of students from across 100 countries choose to study in a supportive and cooperative environment at SIU. The total number of students enrolled for each term at SIU is more than 11,000. The student to faculty ratio at SIU is 11:1. Classes are conducted in small sizes of 20 students to give attention to each student that they deserve. The Career Development Center hosts job and internship fairs for students of different streams to connect with employers. The interviews are conducted both virtually and in person. Some of the top recruiters include Cognizant, Deutsche Bank, eBay, Ford Motor Company, IBM, JPMorgan Chase & Co, McKinsey & Company, McDonald's Corporation, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Walmart Corporate and Whirlpool Corporation.
