Overview

History, Affiliations & Rankings

Founded on July 4, 1881, as the Tuskegee Normal School for Colored Teacher, Tuskegee University is now a private, historically black university in Tuskegee, Alabama. The university was established by Lewis Adams and Booker T. Washington. The university is the resting place of scientist George Washington Carver,  American agricultural scientist and inventor. The university campus is designated as the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site by the National Park Service. Tuskegee University was listed at 8th rank among the 2020 U.S. News & World Report best Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Tuskegee University provides 24-hour Campus Police protection for all its students and all the officers stationed there are state certified. Tuskegee University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award Baccalaureate, Master's, Doctorate, and professional degrees to students. The following academic programmes are accredited by national agencies: Architecture, Business, Education, Engineering, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Veterinary Medicine. The veterinary school at the University is fully accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The University offers several Engineering degree programmes possessing ABET accreditation. The Aerospace Science Engineering department was established in 1983. Tuskegee University offers as many as 40 bachelor's degree programs, 17 master's degree programmes, a 5-year professional degree programme in architecture, 4 doctoral degree programs, and the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

Achievements and Alumni

University’s staff is highly reputed and is famous for their outstanding work. University has been ranked 8th (out of 80 best historically Black Colleges and Universities in their 2020 rankings) by U.S. News & World Report. It is also recognized as one of the best universities for its contribution to the public welfare. Tuskegee has a very strong alumni network. Famous professionals in various fields such as athletics, liberal arts, and law enforcement have passed out from Tuskegee University.
