Founded in 1894, the University of Massachusetts, Lowell is a public institution based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Popularly known as UMass Lowell, it is part of the University of Massachusetts system. Scholarships for International Students at University of Massachusetts, Lowell

From merit-based scholarships to talent-based to need-based, the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (UMass Lowell) offers a plethora of scholarships to its students. With the help of these scholarships, candidates get encouragement to keep achieving more and maintaining an equilibrium between academic life and co-curricular activities.

Merit Based Scholarships

For Undergraduate Applicants

A range of merit scholarships are offered to international students, eligibility for which is determined after the student is accepted for admission into matriculated status. No separate application will be required for the scholarship and the student will receive a letter with eligibility for a merit-based scholarship along with his/her acceptance. 

For Graduate Applicants

Different teaching assistantships are available for qualified full-time students. Individuals interested in research assistantships should contact departmental faculty members to know what financial aida they are eligible for. Students who receive teaching or research assistantships must be matriculated and full-time (minimum of 9 credits per semester).

'Endowed' Scholarships for Current International Students

UMass Lowell offers a limited number of endowed scholarships to current students, most of which are open to undergraduate applicants. Criteria for being accepted for an endowed scholarship may vary. However, most of these funds would demand students to demonstrate remarkable academic achievement and/or financial need. It will also require students to complete UMass Lowell coursework with a good GPA.

These scholarships are awarded the different individual academic departments on the basis of the student’s merit in the major. 

Apart from these international students can look for scholarship opportunities offered by their home countries to those applying for higher education in the US. In addition, UMass Lowell also gets funding from private outside organisations along with the UMass Lowell Payment Plan which applies to current and matriculated students.
