History, Affiliations & Rankings

The university is a public research university located in Charlotte, North Carolina. After struggling from 1871 the university was started by the State of North Carolina in 1946 with 278 students. The Charlotte center was taken over by the city School and thus known as “Charlotte College” a junior college. The state-supported the college in 1958. Later in 1965, it merged with the Consolidated University of North Carolina. As per their performance, the university ranked 228 among National Universities by US News and World Report 2020. Times Higher Education ranks it among 501-600th in the US Rankings 2020.

The university is affiliated with the Association of Practical and Professional Ethics and International Academy of Medical Ethics and Public Health. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The university has a suburban setting with a campus size of 1000 acres. There are three campuses Charlotte research institute campus, Centre City Campus, and University City. 

There are 17 residential halls, clubs, athletics, art and entertainment, off-campus housing. There are 23 doctoral, 64 masters, and 140 bachelor programs which are provided by all the 9 colleges. This is the fastest-growing university in terms of enrollment in higher education in the Charlotte region. 

Popular majors offered include Business, Management, Marketing, Engineering, Psychology, Social Sciences, Communication, and Journalism.

Accomplishments & Alumni 

The university’s intense involvement in economic, culture, health, social needs, and environment, the Carnegie Foundation has recently given the designation of “Community Engaged Institution”, the university represented at Charlotte Business Journal’s Women in Business Award, Awarded with the Art-winning Animated movie, awarded with the Harshini De Silva Graduate Mentor Award, and many more. 

Some famous alumni became politicians, footballers, athletes, business people, celebrities, writers, and many more. Few of them are Clay Aiken, an author, John Maine, a baseball player, Robert A. Niblock, a businessman, and Shannon McNeil, a dancer.

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

There is a diversity of students studying in the university from different classes, cast, religion, ideas, and countries. There are closely 42% of underprivileged students who join the college every year. The university has an undergraduate male to female ratio of 52.6% men and 47.4% women. With 90% of the students coming from North Carolina, about 1,997 international students from 48 countries also pursue their dream education and UNC.

To get recruited the university conducts small and large events for the students. POpular organization where the alumni work includes Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Atrium Health, Duke Energy Corporation, Lowe's Companies, Inc., Novant Health, TIAA, and Microsoft.
