The University of Notre Dame is a private research university established in 1842. Founded by Edward F. Sorin, the university was under the authority of the Holy Cross priests until 1967. Notre Dame is one of USA’s leading undergraduate teaching universities, also popular for research and scholarship. The university is affiliated to the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (AACU) and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Notre Dame has been ranked among the top 25 institutions of higher education by Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, and others.
