The University of Wisconsin is a public research university, founded in 1848 when Wisconsin achieved statehood. It is located in Madison, Wisconsin and is recognised as one of the prominent universities of the world. It is ranked 65th in the 2022 edition of QS World University Rankings and 49th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. For 2020, the university shared the 37th rank among global universities by U.S. News & World Report. Nationally, Washington Monthly ranked UW-Madison 4th in its 2020 rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities ranked it 21st in 2021.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

The university’s main campus spreads across an area of 936 acres. It has 13 schools and colleges where approximately 45,000 students are enrolled in different undergraduate and postgraduate courses. More than 9,000 courses are offered at the university including 200+ undergraduate majors and certificate courses and 250+ masters and doctoral courses.  The university has more than 2,000 expert faculty who help the students in their personal and academic growth. The average class size at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is 31 and has its own botanical gardens, hospital, recreation facilities, food service, public artworks, an on-campus dairy plant and power facilities.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has dedicated 50 years to studying poverty and social inequality. The research work undertaken by the university is outstanding and is ranked 8th in the volume of research done by the university. One of the biggest achievements of the university was the 9 noble prizes awarded to the faculty and alumni of the university. The awards have been received in the fields of medicine, physics, physiology, chemistry, literature and economics. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of the only three public universities in the top 10 list of colleges to produce the most Fortune 500 CEOs. The alumni of the university are strong businessmen, engineers and professionals who hold an international reputation which includes names like John Muir, Frank Lloyd Wright, Elmer McCollum, Charles Lindbergh, Laurel Clark, to name a few.
