Established in 1868 as the Detroit College of Medicine, Wayne State University (WSU) became a public research university in 1934, situated in Detroit, Michigan. Furthermore, Wayne State University is affiliated with Universities Research Association, University Research Corridor, Great Cities' Universities, Coalition of Urban Serving Universities, Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. It is Michigan's third-largest university, along with the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, comprising the University Research Corridor of Michigan. Wayne State University is ranked #246 in National Universities by the U.S. News & World Report 2020. As per Forbes Global 2020, Wayne State has been ranked #601 on a global scale. The University is ranked at 484 by QS Global World Universities Ranking.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Wayne State consists of 13 schools and colleges offering more than 350 programmes to nearly 27,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Wayne State's main campus comprises 203 acres linking more than 100 education and research buildings. It also has six satellite campuses in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Jackson counties. the Mike Ilitch School of Business; the College of Education; the College of Engineering; the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts; the Graduate School; the Law School; the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Wayne State University is located in Midtown Detroit near notable institutions and attractions, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Historical Museum, the Michigan Science Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and many other Art & History related destinations. 

Accomplishments & Alumni 

WSU is recognised by the Carnegie Foundation with its highest classification for research. It’s Alumni Association was formed in 1935 and consists of more than 274,000 alumni across the world. One of the highlighting facts about WSU is that every year, WSU participates in NCAA Division II in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for all sports except for fencing, where they compete in the single division Midwest Fencing Conference. Notable Wayne State alumni include Cora Brown, the first African-American woman elected to a state Senate, and Keith Ellison, the first Muslim in Congress. 

Student Diversity & Visiting Companies

Fall 2019 enrollment for the university consisted of 26,800+ students, out of which over 2200+ students were international students. Outside the classroom, Wayne State students can get involved by exploring more than 200 campus organisations or by visiting the museums, concert halls and professional sports venues of Detroit. The student-faculty ratio at Wayne State University is 16:1, and the school has 49.6 per cent of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Top employers are Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Beaumont Health, Rock Ventures and so on.
