JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Day 1: Detailed Analysis by Infinity Learn

The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 paper offered candidates a well-known but challenging task, mostly adhering to the format and general standards of the January 2025 session. The test emphasised time management, especially in the numerical sections, and praised conceptual clarity and methodical preparation. Chemistry required close attention, Physics offered some solace, and Mathematics once again proved to be the key differentiator.

Shift 1 Analysis

Mathematics:
The most difficult part of the paper turned out to be mathematics. Speed and accuracy were crucial for success because a number of the questions were time-consuming and involved extensive computations. The main distinction was how well the ideas were executed under duress, even though the concepts themselves were generally in line with the syllabus.
Chemistry:
Chemistry maintained a moderate level of difficulty, providing a well-balanced combination of simple and challenging questions. A couple of Organic Chemistry questions jumped out as being especially challenging; they required close reading and a solid understanding of the basics. Pupils were better able to handle these subtleties when they relied on conceptual knowledge rather than memorisation at the surface level. Chemistry remained accessible overall, although it required focus and accuracy. Chemistry was all about detailed, gritty notions.

Physics:
Physics turned out to be comparatively simpler than mathematics and chemistry. Instead of just using formulas, the segment focused more on conceptual comprehension. Students who were well-prepared and had a clear understanding of the principles would have found this portion to be manageable and confidence- boosting, enabling them to get consistent scores without undue time pressure.

Shift 2 Analysis

Physics:
With over 20% more application-based questions, Physics was slightly harder than the Shift 1 paper. Students who had concentrated on concept application rather than direct formula memory were rewarded because most of the questions were comparable to prior years' questions (PYQs) from the preceding five years.

Chemistry:
Compared to Shift 1, Chemistry proved to be more difficult. This exam comprised demanding questions from Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry, requiring balanced preparation across the discipline, in contrast to the previous shift, where challenging questions were mostly limited to Organic Chemistry.
Mathematics:
Compared to Shift 1, mathematics was a little more difficult because there were more questions requiring lengthier computations. Effective time management became essential to maximising efforts in this stage, even though the intellectual level stayed the same.
