TG TET 2026; In-Service Teachers struggle to prepare for the exam, demand exemption
According to the Supreme Court’s directive, In-service teachers are required to take the TG TET 2026 exam. Many are facing difficulties in preparing for it and are seeking an exemption. Key details are provided below.
In-Service Teachers struggle to prepare for the TG TET 2026 exam: The announcement of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has caused considerable concern among government teachers. Many educators, who regularly prepare students for exams, are now hesitant to take the test themselves. The Supreme Court has mandated that even teachers currently in service must appear for the TET. However, over 45,000 teachers in the state do not meet the eligibility criteria for the exam, and only those set to retire within the next five years have been granted an exemption.
Historically, the TET has had a very low pass rate. Only a small number of recently trained B.Ed graduates manage to clear it. In contrast, many in-service teachers entered the profession decades ago, when the syllabus was entirely different. The education system has undergone numerous reforms since then. As a result, many serving teachers find themselves unfamiliar with updated concepts, particularly areas related to child psychology and the modern educational framework included in the TG TET 2026.
Many in-service teachers are worried for other reasons as well. A science teacher usually focuses only on science, but the TET syllabus also includes Mathematics. This makes it hard for them to handle subjects outside their expertise. The question papers are now set according to the updated syllabus and new teaching methods. Young candidates preparing for TET are more comfortable with computers and can easily search for study materials online. In contrast, many working teachers do not have the same access or skills, which increases their anxiety.
Meanwhile, teachers’ unions and the government are still fighting in court to get an exemption from TET, but the issue remains unresolved. Despite this, the TET notification has already been released. Online applications will be accepted until November 29 , and the TG 2026 exam is scheduled to be conducted online from January 3 to 31, 2026.
