The expected cutoff percentile for 40 marks in CAT 2025 is 68. It is considered a very low score in the entrance test, and there are no chances of securing IIM MBA admission with 68 percentile in CAT. Alternate options include Symbiosis Institute, Amity Business School, and others.

Students can expect the cutoff percentile for 40 marks in CAT 2025 to be around 68th. It is not at all considered a good score for MBA admission across the top business schools in India. For top-tier colleges like the IIMs, IMT Ghaziabad, and others, students must score at least 90 to 95+ percentile in the CAT exam. A 68th percentile score in the CAT 2025 means that students will not be eligible to apply for any of the premier business schools at the national level. However, one can still get admission into private and university-affiliated business schools at the regional level for MBA and other PGDM courses. Some examples of available business schools are the Great Lakes Institute of Management, Symbiosis Institute, Amity Business School, and several others.

Admission Policy for CAT 2025 Shortlisting
The general admission policy for CAT 2025 shortlisting is the same for all institutes. There may be a slight difference in some of the factors that usually vary for every institute. The basic admission criteria involve a two-stage process for Application Shortlisting and WAT-PI Selection. The details of the admission policy are provided here for your reference:
Step 1: Application Shortlisting
Students will have to first register themselves on the respective college website for the admission process. During the registration process, they will have to mention all the details about their academic background, CAT score and work experience. Based on the application form, a list of eligible students will be shortlisted for the WAT-PI round of selection. Those who meet the minimum required cutoff and all the other admission criteria will be eligible to appear for the written assessment, followed by the personal interview round. It is important to note that only the students who clear the written assessment will be able to participate in the personal interview round.
The shortlisting process will be finalised by calculating the composite score, which involves various components such as the CAT score, class 10th and 12th scores, Bachelor’s degree performance, work experience, and gender diversity. The weightage of each component will be calculated based on the student’s performance, and finally, the admission status of the student will be determined. The overall and sectional cutoff scores of the student in the CAT exam will play a major role in this process.
Step 2: WAT-PI Selection Round
The WAT-PI selection round will be conducted only for the students who have been shortlisted after the application process. Students will have to individually qualify in all these rounds of selection to be eligible for admission. Therefore, the scores from the WAT and PI will be calculated separately to determine the actual composite score. The post-PI scores will be calculated by parameters like personal interview round performance, WAT score, CAT score, Class 10th board score, Class 12th board score, Bachelor’s score, and work experience.
In a gist, 40 marks in CAT 2025 is a very low score for MBA admission for the majority of the business schools in India. Not just the top-tier IIMs, but students will also not get admission into any of the remaining IIMs with a 68th percentile score in CAT. While private and other regional universities are still an option for those with 40 marks in CAT 2025, it is best to appear for the entrance exam again next year to secure a better chance at admission with an improved score.
