CLAT 2022 Exam Analysis: English Section

A total of 30 questions were there in the English section which was moderately easy but lengthy. There were 6 passages with 5 questions in each. Passages were given on public speaking, cryptocurrencies, modern animal rights movement, goddess Gaia, Saroo; the beggar from Madhya Pradesh and wash your hands- Covid19. The questions were on point but concentrated more on your reading speed than your knowledge of the English language. 

CLAT 2022 Exam Analysis: Current Affairs and General Knowledge

Students who appeared for CLAT 2022 termed this section as weird as there were some unexpected questions. The questions from this section were moderate and consisted of 35 questions in total. There were altogether 7 passages with 5 questions each. Questions were based on Drone Shakti, Russian-Ukrainian war, CSR and Covid19, AFSPA, Space and ISRO, SAGAR Vision and Patents and Green technology. 

CLAT 2022 Exam Analysis: Legal Reasoning

This section can be termed as ‘Easy to Moderate’ because the questions were asked from the basic concepts of law. The students who found this section tough didn’t focus on understanding the concept. A total of 40 questions were asked in this section with 8 passages consisting of 5 questions. The passages asked in the examination were Constitution: Fundamental Rights and Reasonable Restrictions, Special Marriage Law, Contract Law: Void and Voidable Contracts, Environmental Jurisprudence: Doctrines, Public International Law: Theories of Relationship between International Law and Municipal Law, Law of Writs (Constitutional), Penal Law and Personal Laws related to Bigamy and Levy of Taxes on Religious Denominations (Mentions the theme of secularism).

CLAT 2022 Exam Analysis: Logical Reasoning

A few tricky questions but a lengthy section was the Logical reasoning part. There were short passages, mostly contextual. With a total of 30 questions, this section was moderate due to lengthy questions. There were 6 passages from Nuclear Energy, Madras High Court’s Duty to Laugh order, POCSO Act, Global Biodiversity Framework, Covid-19 and Online Teaching and College and Adulthood.

CLAT 2022 Exam Analysis: Quantitative Techniques

The questions were based on the syllabus, not much complicated and easy to attempt. Questions were based on data interpretation, sufficiency, percentages and profit and loss. 15 questions were there in this section but no graph-based questions were asked.

• CLAT Analysis 2018 - The overall level of difficulty was reasonable. All of the questions in Elementary Mathematics were formula-based and easy to solve. According to exam experts, the CLAT 2018 exam was plagued by numerous technical issues. Furthermore, applicants at many test centres could not complete their exams due to a lack of time. They reported that the exam was good but lengthy.
• CLAT 2017 - Most students reported that the exam was pretty complex. According to expert opinion, the exam was a little more complicated than the previous year, with GK and Mathematics being the most difficult sections. 
• CLAT 2016 - The majority of students found the paper to be straightforward. The Legal Aptitude section included short Reading Comprehension passages, while the GK section included many Current Affairs questions. The questions in the English section were pretty straightforward; however, the questions in the Logical Reasoning and Mathematics sections were slightly more complex.
• CLAT 2015 - The paper was difficult for the majority of the students. Legal Aptitude was the most challenging section, accompanied by Logical Reasoning and General Knowledge. English was simple.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2021 English Section

The English section was reported as the easiest of all the other sections. The difficulty level of the English Section was Easy to Moderate. CLAT Exam Analysis 2021 Current Affairs & General Knowledge Section

The Current Affairs & GK section of CLAT 2021 had a total of 35 questions and all were MCQs. Every passage saw 1-2 questions from Static GK. Topics such as  World Water Day, JaI Shakti Ministry, PM Visit to Bangladesh, Chabhar Port etc. were covered in this section.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2021 Legal Reasoning Section

With a total of 40 questions, the Legal Reasoning section had the highest number of questions. This section has been reported as the most time consuming one and had 8 passages. Each passage was of around 450 words and had 5 questions under it. Students had to read a lot to answer questions and it took away a lot of their time. The difficulty level of the Legal Reasoning section of CLAT 2021 was Moderate.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 Section-Wise

As per the feedback of the experts and the students, CLAT 2020 was a moderate exam. Due to the changed exam pattern of CLAT 2020, the questions were more passage-based and candidates found them too lengthy and very time-consuming.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 English Section

• The questions in the CLAT 2020 English section were Moderate on the difficulty level.
• There were 30 questions under 6 passages. The passages were reported to be a bit long but the questions were not difficult to answer.
• Students had to answer the questions based on word- meanings, synonyms etc.
• Passages were story-based and few of them were on Bois Locker Room Controversy, Virtual Reality and Climate Change. 

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 Current Affairs & General Knowledge Section

• The Current Affairs & General Knowledge section of the CLAT 2020 was different than the usual CLAT exam.
• 36 Questions popped up from 7 passages.
• Most of the questions and passages were based on recent events and happenings.
• The difficulty level for the CLAT 2020 Current Affairs & General Knowledge section was recorded between Moderate to Difficult.
• Students complained that the questions required factors and reasons affecting the event. They were not straightforward.
• Like many other sections, Current Affairs & General Knowledge was reported to as time-consuming.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 Legal Reasoning Section

• The Legal Reasoning section of CLAT 2020 had a total of 39 Questions. 
• Candidates had to go through 8 passages and as per the experts they were more basic than knowledge-based.
• Passages touched topics such as the issue of obscenity, Vizag gas leak, the principle of Natural Justice, impact of COVID 19, Article 20 (1): Ex post facto laws, the lynching of Palghar District, Arnab Goswami vs Union of India and Common intention.
• This section was also considered as Moderate to Difficult.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 Logical Reasoning Section

• The Logical Reasoning section of CLAT 2020 saw a total of 30 questions.
• Only 2 questions were from Analytical Reasoning while the rest 25+3 came from critical reasoning.
• Issues such as social journalism, the anti-alcohol movement, work from home during corona pandemic, coding-decoding, matrix puzzle etc. were touched in this section.
• Questions were easy to attempt but consumed the time of the law aspirants.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2020 Quantitative Techniques Section

• Minimum questions arose from the CLAT 2020 Quantitative Techniques section.
• 15 questions were asked under 3 sets. Each set carried 5 questions.
• One set was reported to be incorrect by the experts while the rest 2 sets were easy to solve.

All in all, the changed exam pattern of CLAT 2020 played a vital role in the exam. Due to long passages, students faced the issue of time and found the overall CLAT 2020 paper as quite lengthy. Besides it, the topics covered in the passages were generally basic and did not require in-depth study. Students with basic legal knowledge, apt reasoning skills and a good time-management would be able to qualify the cut off of CLAT 2020.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2018 was conducted on 13th May 2018 (between 3 PM to 5 PM) for admission to law courses offered at the National Law Universities (NLUs). The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) Kochi was the conducting body of CLAT 2018.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2018 of Legal Aptitude Section

Out of the 5 sections this year, the Legal Aptitude section was of easy to moderate difficulty level. This section required a good understanding of legal terms as well as good logical skills for getting the correct answer. The principle given for solving the legal reasoning questions were lengthy and confusing. But overall this section was simpler if compared with last year.

An attempt of 40 to 42 at an accuracy of 85 to 90% was a good attempt for scoring in this section.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2018 of General Awareness Section

It was tricky and there were many indirect questions from current affairs, which required in-depth knowledge of both national as well as international news. However, close to 30 to 35% questions in this section were there form static GK.

A decent number of attempts in this section would be 39 to 41.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2018 of Verbal Section

Verbal Ability section had many vocabulary-based questions and 1 Reading Comprehension passage comprising of 10 questions.

The RC passage had a mix of both factual as well as inferential questions. The only difficult portion of Verbal Ability section this year was CLOZE test.

There were close to 34 to 35 doable questions in this section.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2018 of Quantitative Aptitude Section

This was the toughest section in this year's CLAT exam. Out of the total of 20 questions, 10 of them were from arithmetic viz.. percentages, profit and loss, and discount, averages, simple and compound interest, time speed and distance, but nevertheless this year there were also questions from other topics of QA like Geometry, mensuration, algebra, simplification, higher maths.

There were questions even from probability and permutation.

There were many speed-breaking questions, which were supposed to be left in the exam.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2018 of Logical Reasoning Section

This year, the level of difficulty of Logical Reasoning questions was of moderate level except 5 to 6 tricky questions.

For NLU Bangalore, the cut-off was close to 150 plus. For NALSAR Hyderabad, it went down to 135.

For admission into top 5 National Law Universities, a score of 125 is required.

CLAT 2017 Exam Analyis

CLAT 2017 was conducted by Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna. Although most of the students reported that the exam was moderately difficult, experts said otherwise. Many of the law entrance exam experts stated that the CLAT 2017 paper was relatively tougher than the 2016 exam.

CLAT 2016 Exam Analysis

Common Law Admission Test 2016 was conducted by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (Patiala) on May 8, 2016 admission in 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) and 12 affiliated law schools. The test was conducted for admission to the five year integrated Law courses at their various campuses. More than 30000 students took the CLAT 2016 exam to get admission in top law colleges. 

The pattern of the paper did not witness any change in terms of variety and genre as compared to CLAT 2015 and CLAT 2014.

The English section was aimed at testing the candidates' proficiency in English based on comprehension of passages and grammar in the comprehension section. Candidates were tested on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein etc. The grammar section required correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

CLAT Exam Analysis 2016 of General Knowledge and Currents Affairs Section

The General Knowledge questions aimed to test a student on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Current affairs questions were there to test candidates on their knowledge of national and international issues. There were 35 questions of Current Events and 15 Questions of General Awareness that were of the Static type. The test asked a question on an event that happened in 2016.

This section was to test candidate’s knowledge on elementary mathematics, taught at 9th and 10th Standard. This section was the surprise of the pack in terms of the level of difficulty. The section had 20 questions of which a few questions that were “tricky” and might have tempted the students to choose wrong answers.

This section was to test candidate’s interest towards the study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability. Questions included legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition, which may not be true in the real life, had to be applied. The candidates were required to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly. 15 easy type questions of Legal Knowledge were there. The rest were Legal Reasoning questions which had a good mix of Torts, Contracts, and other types of Law questions.

The logical reasoning section tested the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and identify gap in the arguments. It included a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. No visual reasoning question was there.
