2. Not using the correct browser: This is another prerequisite that is very important while filling out your CAT application. The conducting body recommends using the following browsers to fill out the application form.

Internet Explorer11 and above
Google Chrome50 - 66
Mozilla Firefox50 - 61

So, if you do not have any of these browsers installed on your computer, it is best to first install them and then proceed. Using a browser other than the recommended one can cause issues while filling out the form.

3. Hurrying through the application process: Since the CAT registration is your entry point to IIMs or your dream B-school, it becomes a vital part of the process. Hurrying through it can cause you to miss out on careless mistakes in your CAT application form. It is best to take your time and fill in each detail carefully. 4. Entering personal details incorrectly: Another common mistake candidates usually make is while entering their personal details. Your name, father's name and mother's name should be entered exactly as it is mentioned on your certificates. Any discrepancy can lead to disqualification or issues in the future. You should also be careful while selecting your category in the application form. Double-check that you are selecting the right category, download and fill the Certificate form correctly, and attach it with your application form. Given below is the process with which you can apply for category certificates.

5. Entering academic details incorrectly: You will be asked to enter your academic details in the CAT application form. Details such as your school/ college, board/ university, percentage of marks, etc. will be entered in the form. Make sure you enter your marks exactly as given in your certificates. If you are awarded grades or CGPA, then consult your respective institute regarding the process to convert it into a percentage.

6. Choosing the wrong test centre cities: CAT 2022 is likely to be conducted in 158 cities this year. You are given the option to choose up to 6 test city centres in the CAT application form. While candidates usually get accommodated in their first choice, this may usually not be the case. So, it is best to enter all of the 6 choices carefully. Put the centre most convenient to you as your first choice and then in a gradually decreasing order. Here is the complete list of CAT exam centres to help you.

7. Uploading unclear photograph and signature: Uploading your photograph and signature is the last step of entering your personal details in the CAT application form. Uploading blurry images or images in the wrong dimensions can lead to problems. And while the form correction process provides the option to change them, it is best to get it right on the first go. Given below are the specifications recommended by IIMA for the photograph & signature.

DocumentDimensionsFile SizeFormatResolution
Photograph30 mm X 45 mm< 80 KB.jpg/ . jpeg> 150 ppi
Signature80 mm X 35 mm

Also, keep the following points in mind:

  • The photograph must not be older than 6 months.
  • The photo must be taken against a white background.
  • You will be required to attach the same photograph to the CAT admit card.
  • Make sure you are uploading clear images as per the given resolution.

8. Entering work experience incorrectly: You will be asked to enter the details of your work experience in the CAT application form. Here are some points that you must keep in mind to avoid mistakes while entering your work experience in the CAT application.

  • Only enter full-time experience after graduation. Any pre-graduation work, part-time work, internships, and article ships are not counted towards the work experience.
  • Make sure you check all of the industry types applicable to you. Enter the work experience in days for each separately.

9. Not having a list of programmes ready: You will be asked to enter your choice of programmes in the CAT application form. Since any number of choices can be made without preference, candidates can just use the 'Select All' checkbox to select all of the programmes. This is considered the best option by many candidates. It maximizes the chances of making the shortlist and removes the hassle of sorting through the courses.  However, you may not be eligible for all of the programmes available in each IIM. And it is easy to have a list of courses ready, beforehand to make it easier while filling out the form. Just take the help of these articles.
