GATE 2024 Paper Analysis

GATE 2022 Exam Analysis

GATE 2019 Analysis

The GATE 2019 exam analysis for 2nd and 3rd February is available here. On both the days, the examination was conducted in two slots - morning shift was conducted from 9:30 to 12:30 PM whereas evening shift was conducted from 2:30 to 05:30 PM. On the very first day of the exam, papers of ME, MN, XE, XL, TF, and CY were concluded. On 3rd February, papers of CS, CH, AE, AG, AR, BT, EY, GG, IN, MA, MT, PE, PH, PI, and ST were held.

IIT Madras conducted the GATE 2019 exam in online mode on February 2, 3, 9 and 10 across 200 test centres in India and abroad. Thousands of engineering students take GATE every year for M.Tech admissions in institutes like IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs, and jobs in PSUs.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India engineering entrance exam conducted for admission to M.Tech or postgraduate level in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture or in Science. GATE 2019 Exam Analysis for Mechanical Engineering (Morning Slot)

The overall difficulty level of GATE Mechanical paper was ‘Easy to Moderate’ in the morning slot. Like the previous year, the NAT (Numerical Answer Type) section had a good number of questions. There were about 26 questions (10 questions with a weightage of 1 mark each and 16 questions with a weightage of 2 marks each). The questions were a bit time-consuming and tested candidates' understanding of concepts. Manufacturing and Thermodynamics were the subjects which had a high weightage and were application-based questions. Fluid Mechanics, on the other hand, was comparatively easier with less weightage than expected. The general aptitude section was easy but the technical section was a bit tough and it had a few tricky questions. The math section had 8 questions and there were 47 questions from the mechanical engineering branch.

On the basis of the morning section, the expected cut-off is in the range of 31-33. Given below is the GATE 2019 Mechanical Engineering Slot 1 with subject-wise marks and the total number of questions 

GATE 2019 Mechanical Engineering Session II (Afternoon slot) Analysis

The afternoon session had a ‘moderate to tough’ level. It had 32 numerical answer type (NAT) questions, 6 extra questions than the morning session. Since the NAT section is time-consuming, it made the paper lengthy. Due to this, time management became an issue for a lot of candidates.

The general aptitude test section had a moderate difficulty level and included 10 questions. The technical section had 8 mathematics questions and the remaining questions were specifically pertaining to the branch.

The manufacturing subject was given the maximum weightage and it had about 11 questions in the exam. The overall cut-off is likely to be in the range of 30-33 due to the difficulty level.

GATE 2019 Computer Science Exam Analysis

The computer science section had the difficulty level of ‘easy to moderate’. The paper pattern was similar to the previous year. NAT had 24 questions with 11 questions of 1 mark and 13 questions of 2 marks. The technical section was between ‘easy to moderate’ while the general aptitude section was easy.  

Database questions were tough. Data Structures, Discrete Mathematics subjects, and Programming had the maximum weightage. Also, there were 9 questions from Programming and Data Structures which was time-consuming for many students. The math section which had discrete math and engineering carried 18 marks, and it was a scoring section.

GATE 2018 Exam Analysis

IIT Guwahati successfully conducted the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2018. A large number of students took the examination across various centres. All those who appeared for the examination can read the section-wise analysis and get to know the topics from where the questions were asked.

GATE 2018 exams on February 3 and 4 were conducted successfully in 2 sessions on each day – 9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm. And the exams for remaining papers were also conducted on February 10 & 11, 2018. Test takers across various cities reported no major issues. The examination went off smoothly, and no problem was reported in terms of the functioning of the online portal and the exam interface.

GATE Civil Engineering (CE) Paper Analysis 2018 - 11th Feb 

The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The GATE 2018 Civil Engineering question paper comprised of both numerical and multiple-choice questions. Most of the questions in the paper were conceptual rather than calculation-based. The paper was divided into three sections - Technical, Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude. Students had to attempt 65 questions in three hours and the maximum marks for students to score were 100. The questions with one mark were easy but the two-mark questions were quite time-consuming. GATE Electrical Engineering (EE) Paper Analysis 2018 - 10th Feb 

IIT Guwahati has successfully conducted GATE 2018 entrance exam for Electrical Engineering (EE) paper on February 10, 2018, in the afternoon slot from 2 to 5 pm. GATE Mechanical Engineering (ME) Paper Analysis 2018 - 3rd Feb

Question Paper Pattern

In Mechanical Engineering, mostly Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions were asked and the proportion was higher in comparison to last year. This factor made the exam a bit difficult. It is easier to attempt direct Theoretical questions and Multiple-Choice-Questions (MCQs), which were lesser in number.

Exam Interface

There was no difference in the exam interface of this year and last year's exam. Since the virtual calculator was already available on the official website of GATE 2018, those who had practised well had an advantage.

Detailed Analysis of GATE ME Paper 2018 for Forenoon Slot (9 am to 12 pm) - 3rd Feb

Overall, the difficulty level of the paper was easy to moderate.

GATE ME Paper Analysis 2018 for Afternoon Slot (2 pm to 5 pm) - 3rd Feb

The questions that were Numerical Answer Type (NAT) were more in number as compared to the Multiple-Choice-Questions (MCQs). NAT questions had more weightage as well. The highest weightage was given to Manufacturing Technology and many of the questions were lengthy. The easy ones were of one mark and there were very few that had a moderate difficulty level. On the whole, the ME paper in the second slot required more logical thinking and conceptual analysis. Overall, the paper was easy to moderate in terms of the difficulty level.

GATE Life Sciences (XL) Paper Analysis 2018 - 3rd Feb

GATE 2018 Life Sciences (XL) Paper, conducted in the forenoon slot, had questions based on general aptitude and conceptual domain knowledge. Following are some of the highlights of GATE XL Paper 2018.

• In Section P (Chemistry) of XL Paper, questions were based on Atomic Structure, periodicity, s.p. and d Block Elements, etc. This section is compulsory for candidates.
• In Section Q (Biochemistry) of XL Paper, questions were based on Biochemical separation techniques, etc. The difficulty level of this section was of easy to moderate level.
• In Section R (Botany) of XL Paper, questions were based on Plant Systematics and Economic Botany. The difficulty level of this section was of easy to moderate level.
• In Section S (Microbiology) of XL Paper, questions were based on the discovery of microbial world; Landmark discoveries relevant to the field of microbiology, evaluation of the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents, etc. The difficulty level of this section was of Moderate level.
• In Section T (Zoology) of XL Paper, questions were asked from the evolution and the animal world.
• Section U (Food Technology) of XL Paper was easy to moderate in nature with questions based on Food Products Technology.

GATE Aerospace Engineering (AE) Paper Analysis 2018 - 3rd Feb

GATE AE exam was conducted in the afternoon slot. The examination 80% technical and 20% non-technical. The majority of the questions asked in AE were based on the core subjects such as Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations. Out of the total 100 questions that were asked in the paper, only 15 questions were non-technical. In technical questions, some of the topics that were covered included Engg. Mathematics, Space Dynamics, Flight Mechanics, Aero Dynamics, Structure and Propulsion. On the other hand, non-technical questions covered English, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning and Basic Mathematics.

GATE Engineering Services (XE) Paper Analysis 2018 - 3rd Feb

The difficulty level of the GATE Engineering Services (XE) Paper, which was conducted in the morning slot, was medium. Engineering Mathematics was moderate and General Aptitude was a bit trickier in terms of difficulty level. In Section B of the paper, there were 7 topics - Fluid Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Material Science, Thermodynamics, Food Technology, Polymer Science and Engineering or Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Candidates had to choose any two topics out of these 7.

GATE Computer Science (CS) Paper Analysis 2018 - 4th Feb

The GATE 2018 question paper for CSE was conceptually based. In the paper, topics such as Operating Systems, Computer Networks, DBMS, Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability were important and students are expected to score well in them. This examination was conducted in the forenoon slot on 4th February (Sunday).

GATE Chemical Engineering (CH) Paper Analysis 2018 - 4th Feb

GATE Chemical Engineering (CH) Paper 2018 was conducted in the afternoon slot (2 pm to 5 pm) on 4th February 2018. The paper was divided into - General Aptitude, from where 15 questions were asked, and Technical Section, from where 85 questions were asked. In the Technical section, the questions were divided into 1 mark and 2 marks questions. See the table below:

GATE Physics (PH) Paper Analysis 2018 - 4th Feb

The GATE 2018 Physics (PH) paper was conducted in the afternoon session on 4th February 2018. The conceptual based questions asked in the paper were related to subjects like Quantum Mechanics, EMT and Mathematical Physics. The difficulty level of the paper was easy to moderate. Candidates had no issues in terms of time while solving the Physics paper. The questions asked in the examination were usually formula based that required little or no calculation at all.
