When studying in ICSE, CBSE, or a state board, you can appear for board exams twice in an academic year. The regular board exams are conducted annually. If you do not score the passing marks in those exams, you can appear for compartment exams. Generally, the boards allow you to appear for two subjects in a compartment exam. Some boards permit you to appear for one subject only in the compartment exams. If you do not score the passing marks in compartment exams too, you have to repeat the academic year.

Besides this, you also have an option to appear for the board exams through NIOS. You should be at least 14 years of age to appear for NIOS 10th board exams. To get enrolled in class 10th, you should have passed the class 9th exam. Moreover, you should have completed class 8th with a gap of one year. The registration for NIOS class 10th begins in December. Without paying any late fee, you can get enrolled for the exams to be held in March or April. How many times can I give 10th board exams?

There are many boards providing you the opportunity to pursue class 10 exams. You can register yourself for the examination in a board of your preference. Every board has set eligibility criteria for admission. If you fulfill the criteria, you can seek admission and complete your education. Following are some of the boards with the eligibility set by them.

CBSE - You should have qualified for Class 9 from CBSE or any other recognized board. Meet the minimum attendance fixed by CBSE and fill out the register for the board exams. Only then will you be provided with the admit card and allowed to appear for the exams. The board allows you to appear for the regular board exams once a year. If you fail to score the passing marks, then you can appear for the compartment exams in the same or upcoming academic session.

CISCE - You can apply offline for admission to ICSE Class 10 after passing class 9. In this board as well as in the current academic year, you can appear for the regular exams along with improvement exams.

PSEB - To appear for the board exams, you are required to pay an application fee of INR 1200. In addition, there will be an application fee of INR 150 for the practical examination, and the examination fee for each extra subject is INR 350. After paying the fee and submitting the application form, you can appear for 10 board exams. The exams are generally held in March and April. If unable to clear the board exams, you can appear for compartment exams. Still, if you score low marks, you can register for the next academic year.

BSEB - The Bihar Board provides the class 10 registration form in October. You can fill in the registration forms and submit all details in addition to paying the required fees. For regular students, the fee is INR 1400. For compartment exams, you will have to pay INR 1700. Similarly, for vocational courses, INR 1800 is the registration fee and for vocational compartment exams, you will have to pay INR 2100. After appearing for the board exams, if you are unable to get the passing marks, you can appear for compartment exams.

RBSE - To be eligible for Rajasthan board class 10 board exams, you need to qualify for RBSE class 9 exams. The class 9 exams can be completed from any other recognized board too. There is no age limit to appear for RBSE 10th board exams. The board exams are conducted annually by the Rajasthan board along with the board exams.

HBSE - To appear for class 10th board exams, yit is necessary for everyone to register for board exams. By filling out the registration form and paying the fee, you can get registered for board exams. Only then can you appear for board exams. If you fail to score the passing marks, you will have to appear for compartment exams to be held next.

Karnataka - The board conducts three exams. The marks for the best ones will be considered for the result. You should appear for all exams and your performance in the best one will be finalized. The Karnataka board will not conduct any improvement exams.

NIOS - The board conducts the board exams twice a year. You can register for the June or December session. The compartment exams will be held in November and April, respectively for both sessions. According to the schedule, students can appear for any session. There is no age limit or number of attempts for board exams.

Who can appear for the compartment exams?

If you failed in a subject or two, you can appear for compartment exams. Take a look at the eligibility criteria followed by different boards.

  • CBSE - The board allows you to appear for two subjects in the compartment exams. You are allowed three attempts in compartment exams.
  • CISCSE - The board conducts improvement exams instead of compartment exams. If you could not get the pass certificate in board exams, you can enroll for improvement exams in the same academic year.
  • PSEB - If you did not score at least the minimum passing marks (33%) in one or more subjects, you can appear for compartment exams once in the Punjab board.
  • BSEB - On failing in one or two subjects, including English, in the bihar board, you can apply for the compartment exams.
  • RBSE - If you fail to score the passing marks in one or two subjects, you can enroll for compartment exams once in the Rajasthan board.
  • HBSE - Haryana board allows you to appear for compartment exams if you failed in one subject and wish to improve the score.
  • HPBOSE - Himachal Pradesh board conducts compartment exams in July. The board will conduct the compartment exams only once.
  • MP Board - Madhya Pradesh board will conduct the compartment exams only once. The exams are conducted between June and July.
