Factors Affecting IIT BHU GATE 2026 Cutoff

There are various factors related to the qualifying examination that will be taken into consideration while preparing the IIT BHU GATE cutoff 2026. IIT BHU will check all of the factors listed below and accordingly arrange the cutoff for admissions:-

Factor

Explanation

Effect on Cutoff

Difficulty level of GATE 2026 paper

The overall toughness of the GATE paper strongly influences score distribution. A difficult paper results in lower average scores and compressed top scores, whereas an easier paper leads to higher scores across candidates.

Difficult paper → lower cutoff score; Easy paper → higher cutoff score

Number of GATE-qualified candidates

The total number of candidates qualifying GATE 2026 in a particular paper determines competition intensity. Higher qualifiers increase competition for limited IIT BHU seats.

More qualifiers → higher cutoff; Fewer qualifiers → lower cutoff

Total seats available at IIT BHU

Each department has a fixed intake capacity. Any increase or decrease in M.Tech or PhD seats directly affects cutoff levels.

More seats → cutoff decreases; Fewer seats → cutoff increases

Branch and specialization demand

Popular branches like Computer Science, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering attract more applicants than niche disciplines. Higher demand pushes cutoffs upward.

High-demand branches → higher cutoff

Previous year cutoff trends

Cutoff trends from previous years indicate whether competition is increasing or stabilizing. Rising trends often continue unless major changes occur.

Upward trend → likely higher cutoff

Himani Daryani, Content Team

In most Indian states, just having a BTech degree is not enough to appear for TET or DSC. You usually need a proper teaching course like B.Ed or D.El.Ed along with it.

This isn’t about how “big” or “small” your degree is. It’s about teacher training. A BTech gives you technical knowledge, but it does not train you to teach students in a classroom. That’s why, even if BTech is a higher degree, it is not considered a teaching qualification. States want teachers who are trained specifically for teaching, which is why they insist on B.Ed or D.El.Ed.
