NIFT 2026 FAQs Released by NTA

Each year, the National Testing Agency updates and releases a new set of FAQs for NIFT. This helps NIFT students to resolve their doubts and get answers to their queries. As the NIFT 2026 FAQs are now available to read, here are all the commonly asked questions and their answers in relation to the NIFT Entrance Examination that will be held on 8th February 2026.

NIFT 2026 FAQs Released by NTA

The questions below are the NIFT 2026 Frequently Asked Questions that have been released by the National Testing Agency for 2026:

Q1. How do I apply for NIFTEE 2026?

Students can apply for NIFTEE 2026 specifically through online mode on the official NTA Examination portal, exams.nta.ac.in. The students need to read through the entire information bulletin to ensure that they are eligible for the exam and their chosen program.

Q2. Can I edit the application form after submission?

After the closure of the application process, you can edit your application form during the correction window that is opened. You can change your image, exam city choices and educational information.

Q3. What should I do if there is an error in my Admit Card?

If you notice any error or discrepancy inyour admit card in relation to name, photograph, gender, date of birth, signature category or PwD status. You should immediately contact the NTA helpdesk.

Q4. How can students download their scorecard?

Students can download their scorecard by logging into the NTA portal with the Application Number, Date of Birth, and Security Pin. The scorecard has to be saved for use during the counselling and admission rounds, as it will not be sent physically.

Q5. Who conducts the counselling for NIFTEE 2026?

The counselling for NIFTEE 2026 is conducted by the NIFT headquarters through a centralised online counselling portal.

Q6. What time should I report to the examination centre?

Students should report to the examination centre 2 hours before the reporting time mentioned on the Admit Card. Late entry is not allowed, regardless of the reason, and the gates close at the mentioned time on the admit card to ensure all verification processes are completed on time.

Q7. Can I change my exam centre after the Admit Card is issued?

No. Once the Admit Card has been issued, no request for exam centre change will be entertained, irrespective of any reason. All students have to appear at their allotted exam centres.

Q8. Can candidates request rechecking/re-evaluation of their results?

No. There is no scope or provision for rechecking/re-evaluation of their results. This is especially important for requests related to personal review of evaluation, change in rank, rechecking, and correction of marks.

Q9. How will candidates register for counselling?

After the final merit ranks are released, students need to log in to the NIFT Counselling Portal from the NIFT website to register using their application number. On the portal, they need to upload the requested documents and pay the counselling registration fee.

Q10. Does NIFT provide hostel accommodation after admission?

The hostel accommodation facilities are dependent on campus-specific availability. All NIFT campuses do not have full hostel capacity. It is important to note that hostel allotment is separated from academic seat allotment and is based on administrative rules.

Q11. Can I send documents via e-mail for verification?

No. Only documents uploaded/submitted through the official counselling portal are accepted. Any documents sent through the post/e-mail are not processed.

Q12. Is there a freeze/float/slide option in NIFT counselling?

Yes. NIFT may provide options resembling counselling for higher education systems. Freeze means to accept the allotted seat, Float means to wait for a higher preference, and Slide means to select the campus but with a higher program preference. The exact rules are mentioned in the Counselling Guidelines.

Q13. Are scribe facilities available for PwD candidates?

Yes. Students with benchmark disabilities like cerebral palsy, blindness, or locomotor disability that affects writing may avail a scribe, reader or lab assistant according to NTA guidelines. They have to request a scribe's approval at the time of application or through the helpdesk.

Q14. Can NRI/Foreign National students participate in the counselling?

Yes. NRI/Foreign/SAARC/PIO/OCI applicants can also be allotted seats through a separate supernumerary quota. They can also participate in the counselling process organised by the International Admissions Cell at NIFT.

Q15. Will NTA or NIFT entertain queries regarding marks or ranking?

No. Once the results are declared, any requests related to the correction of marks, change in rank, rechecking, or personal review of the evaluation are not entertained. The students have to accept the declared result as the final result.

Q.16 How is the merit prepared for the Artisans category?

The merit for the artisan’s category is prepared based on the total score obtained in the written or practical test, portfolio assessment and personal interaction. The weightages may be notified by NIFT, and only those who appear in all components are considered.

Q17. Is biometric verification compulsory at the exam centre?

Biometric verification is mandatory for all candidates appearing for the exam. It is used specifically for identity verification and maintenance of examination integrity.

Q18. Will the provisional answer key be displayed for NIFTEE 2026?

Yes. The provisional answer key will be displayed by NTA along with the question papers and recorded responses on the official portal. It will be helpful for students to review their answers, and it is typically available for 2 to 3 days. Through this, students can verify their answers and challenge any question they believe might have errors.

Q19. How can candidates challenge the provisional answer key?

Students can challenge the provisional answer key through the online link provided on the NTA website. When challenging the provisional answer key, it is important to mention the question number, a detailed explanation or justification, relevant proof or source. Additionally, you are required to pay a non-refundable fee of INR 200 per question.

Q20. Who examines the challenges submitted by the candidates?

The submitted challenges are reviewed by an independent panel of subject experts appointed by NTA. They evaluate all the objections, verify the content and recommend all the necessary corrections.

Q21. What happens after the expert panel reviews the challenges?

If a challenge is found valid, then the Answer Key is revised or corrected. All of the corrections are included in the Final Answer Key and are used in the evaluation of candidate responses. Once the Final Answer Key is published, no further changes are allowed.

Q22. How will I know if I am shortlisted for counselling?

After the declaration of the final results, students should download their scorecard and check their All India rank. NIFT will release counselling guidelines, schedule, and seat matrix on their website. All shortlisted students need to register on the NIFT portal, and no separate email/SMS will be sent for shortlisting.

Q23. Who is eligible for EWS reservation?

The students belonging to the Economically Weaker Section must provide a valid EWS certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate will confirm eligibility under the EWS criteria prescribed by Govt of India. Also, the certificate must be valid for the FY 2026-2027 according to the latest guidelines.

Q24. What happens if the information in the documents does not match the application form?

If there is any discrepancy in the information of the submitted documents, then the admission is rejected/cancelled. Some of the incorrect information includes mismatched names, wrong date of birth, and incorrect category claims, or failure provide original documents. All of these will lead to the loss of the allotted seat.

Q25. Is the admission provisional?

Yes. All admissions are provisional until the verification of documents, fees payment, eligibility conditions, and certificates is completed. NIFT reserves the right to cancel admission if any discrepancy is found at any stage.

Q26. Is migration from one NIFT campus to another allowed after admission?

Inter-campus migration may be allowed under limited circumstances, such as vacant seats or academic performance. However, rules change each year and are announced by NIFT separately.

Q27. Is coaching mandatory for NIFTEE preparation?

No. NIFT/NTA does not recommend any coaching institute. Students can score well through self-study with the help of sample papers, design aptitude practice and previous year papers.

Q28. Can I request a retest if I miss the exam?

No. NTA does not conduct retests, irrespective of medical, travel, technical or personal reasons. Unless it is proven that there is a centre-level fault, the student must appear for the exam on the allotted date and time.

Q29. Does NIFT accept other exam scores for admission?

No. NIFT does not accept other exam scores for admission except for its own entrance exams, like CAT and GAT, for most students. These include a situational test, a personal interview or counselling. However, NRI students are exempted from the entrance test and can use SAT, GRE, or GMAT scores for their selection process.

Q30. What is the ratio for NIFT 2026 selection?

The NIFT 2026 selection ratio is 1:4. This means that students who have cleared the GAT and CAT stages of the NIFT written exam will be shortlisted for the Situation Test ina ratio of 1:4. Hence, only one among every four students will be selected for the Situation Test stage.
