Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities: The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, has launched the NSP Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities initiative to support high-quality education among disabled students who are pursuing studies at the graduate/post-graduate courses/diploma courses and provide them financial assistance to make sure that no one's future is jeopardized due to their families limited resources. The main goal of the scholarship is to help students with disabilities financially while also recognizing and promoting high-quality education among them. The applicant will be chosen for this scholarship based on the percentage of marks received in the qualifying test and the yearly income of the parent/guardian. Before applying for this scholarship, candidates must make sure they are Indian citizens with an annual income of less than 6 LPA with a 40% disability (as confirmed by a competent medical authority). The candidate availing top class education for students with disabilities scholarship will be given various allowances and perks like INR 2 LPA tuition fee reimbursement, aids, and assistive devices, book and stationary allowance, maintenance allowance for hostellers, etc. For the academic year 2023- the registration window is closed to avail of this scholarship.

About Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India has come up with the top class education for students with disabilities scholarships that aim to promote excellent education among Students with Disabilities (SwDs) by giving complete financial assistance for Post Graduate Degree or Diploma courses in any field at renowned higher educational establishments (such as IITs, IIMs, NITs, and so on). The plan applies to all institutions designated as institutions of excellence by the relevant Department/Ministry. 

Candidates who are eligible for this scholarship will be availing several benefits from reimbursement of tuition fees to hostel allowance. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote quality education among students with disabilities who can’t afford high fees.

Benefits of Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

This scholarship scheme for students with disabilities will provide 300 scholarships in total. Candidates who are availing this top-class education for students with disabilities scholarship will get the following benefits:

Physical Aid and Assistance Devices Offered Under Scholarship

Aid and Assistance Devices For the Hearing Impaired Candidates

Candidates who have a hearing impairment and are availing of this scholarship will also get the following perks:

• Binaural digital programmable hearing aid with provision for button cells
• Laptop with WiFi (Bluetooth) facility

Aid and Assistance Devices For Blind/Low Vision Candidates

Candidates who have a low and blind vision will get the following benefits under this scholarship scheme. 

• Laptop with screen magnification software
• Talk software for mobile phone accessibility
• Braille/Braille Typewriter
• Laptop with screen reading software
• DAISY recorder and player

Eligibility Criteria to Avail Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

Applicants with disabilities who want to avail of this scholarship must fulfill the following eligibility conditions: 

• The total yearly income of the student's parents/guardians must not exceed Rs. 6 LPA
• The student must be an Indian citizen with a 40% disability (as confirmed by a competent medical authority) who has been selected and admitted to one of the designated institutions to pursue a full-time programme at the Post Graduate Degree/Diploma level
• The candidate must not be receiving any other scholarship from the Government of India
• With the exception of twins as the second/third child, no more than two impaired children of the same parents/guardians are eligible.

How to Apply for Scholarships for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

Candidates who meet the requirements established by the governing body and who desire to benefit from this NSP scholarship can apply by following the instructions below:

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

Visit the NSP portal at scholarships.gov.in in

Step 2: Select New User. Link to Registration

When you visit the official website, go to the home page and click on the New User Registration option. Students with Disabilities should read and understand the registration criteria. After you've selected the radio buttons, click the Continue button.

Step 3: Fill out the New Registration Form

When you click on that link, a new registration form will open. Select Post Matric / MC/ Top Class for Class 11, 12, UG, PG, etc., from the Scholarship Category and Select Scholarship Scheme if you want to apply for Scholarships OR Select Incentive Scheme if you want to apply for any incentive scheme and fill out the form with the required information and click on the register button.

Step 3: Click the Login to Apply button

Following the conclusion of the new registration procedure, the student will get a unique application ID and password through SMS to the specified (registered) cellphone number. On the home page, click the Login to Apply link. Your smartphone will then display the Login for Fresh Application web page.

Step 4: Enter your login information

On the login web page, students must log in to NSP using their application ID and password, which they got during the registration process, and then click the login button. When the PwD student first logs in, he or she must update the password. This password must be kept secure and private. Only before the initial login, i.e. before changing the received password, may the student alter the cellphone number.

Step 5: Select the Application Form link

When you click the login button, an applicant dashboard will appear. To begin with the scholarship application, click on the 'Application Form' button. The Application Form is split into three sections: Registration Details, Academic Details, and General Information. PwD students must complete all relevant data in the application form and upload all supporting documentation. Finally, press the ' Final Submit' button.

Step 6: Download and print the Application Form

Your scholarship application will be successfully submitted when you click the submit button. Print and save the application form for future reference.

Note: All candidates are urged to complete the form carefully because modifications cannot be made after it has been sent. Only one application be submitted by each applicant because numerous submissions would result in the cancellation of the form.

Documents Required to fill the Scholarship Application form for Students with Disabilities (SwDs)

The authorities will grant scholarships for top-class education for students with disabilities only after they have checked and verified the candidate’s documents. To avail of this scholarship, candidates must hold the following documents. 

• Certificate of previous academic mark sheet
• Photo of the applicant
• Disability Certificate
• Fee receipt of current course year
• The income certificate of the family
• Bank account details

Terms and Conditions for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

Following are the important terms and conditions of this scholarship that the candidate should be aware of. 

• The authorities will allocate 50% of the total scholarships to female candidates
• The scholarship will normally be awarded for two, four, or five years, depending on the allowed term of the programme in which the candidate has been accepted to study at the covered institutions
• If a scholar is unable to take the test due to sickness or an unanticipated incident, the award may be renewed for the next academic year upon production of a medical certificate and other requisite documentation to the satisfaction of the Head of the Institution.
• If the scholars abandon their studies during the year for which the scholarship is provided they will have to return the amount of scholarship to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India.
