Nobel Laureate for Peace & the great Tibetian spiritual leader, Dalai Lama graced the 5th Convocation of LPU as Chief Guest, which was held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium on 14th November 2015.
Nearly 4000 LPU pass out students of 2015 batch were awarded degrees. His Holiness honoured LPU toppers of various academic programs with gold medals. On the same day, the university also conferred the Degree of Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa, upon the Tibetian leader for his scientific temperament, courageous statesmanship, scientific temperament, and universal benevolence. LPU Tibetan students also accorded traditional welcome to the Dalai Lama through emotional "Tashi Shopa" (Mask) dance and folk instruments' playing.
Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor Punjab & Haryana and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, presided over the convocation ceremony.

While addressing the students the spiritual leader said students are the 21st century people and should make this a century of love, peace, and compassion. Prime purpose of us all in this life is to help others. If we can't help, at least we should not hurt others.
LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal said that His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso is a great propagator of global peace, committed to promoting secular ethics and inter-religious harmony. LPU is indeed fortunate enough on welcoming him to such a prestigious occasion when thousands of students are ready to open a new chapter of their life.
LPU 5th Convocation was consciously designed to be scheduled in two phases. Dr Pakalitha B. Mosisili, Hon`ble Prime Minister of Lesotho Kingdom had blessed LPU students during the first phase.
