6-Month D2C Launch Timeline: From Kitchen to Shelf
Here’s how you can take your food concept from the kitchen to store shelves in just six months.
Months 1–2: Prepare Product, Clear Lab Tests, and Scale-Up
Write down your recipe precisely mentioning the percentages, not just cups or spoons, to ensure the quality, texture, and taste remain the same when produced in large quantities.
Send smaller sample batches of your food to government labs for testing and secure the nutritional label, safety approvals, and shelf life reports.
Reach out to local manufacturers and suppliers to produce and pack large batches.
Months 3–4: Get FSSAI License, Check Legal Compliance, and Design Packages
Register your food brand. Obtain the GST tax number. Apply for an FSSAI food license depending on your projected annual sales.
Register your brand name and logo with the Indian Trademark Registry to protect your brand's identity.
Design the packaging, strictly complying with FSSAI labeling regulations. The packaging should clearly show the FSSAI food license number and logo, the entire list of ingredients used in the making, nutrition table per serving, net weight, MRP, batch number, date of manufacture and expiry, green and red dots for vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, details of the manufacturer, and customer helpline number.
Months 5–6: Launch Website, Sell on Ecommerce & Quick Commerce Sites
With the help of Shopify, create your own website so customers can easily purchase from you. This will help you gather customer data, come up with attractive offers and discounts, and build brand loyalty.
List your food products on ecommerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart for better reach across the country.
Partner with quick commerce apps—Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart—to put your stock up in the dark stores. Make sure you don’t run out of stock and your product has enough shelf life remaining so that these platforms accept your inventory.
To build a D2C food brand, you need to know how to balance product quality, ensure legal safety, and connetc with smart distribution channels. By following a proper 6-month execution blueprint, you can safeguard your money, guarantee regulatory compliance, and scale your brand to success.
