The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Tamil Nadu has released the TN TET 2026 (Special TET) exclusively for working teachers. Online applications are open from 18 February to 10 April 2026. 

TNTET 2025

The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TN TET) 2026 has been released as a Special TET exclusively for currently working teachers across Tamil Nadu. This is not a fresh recruitment drive, it is a mandatory eligibility certification exam for in-service teachers who have not yet cleared TET. The TRB activated the online application link on 18 February 2026, and the last date to apply is 10 April 2026. Eligible teachers can apply at the official website trb.tn.gov.in. This Special TET is strictly for in-service teachers who were appointed on or before 01 September 2025 and are currently serving in government, government-aided, or recognised private schools in Tamil Nadu.

The exam is conducted in two papers: Paper I for teachers handling Classes I to V, and Paper II for teachers handling Classes VI to VIII. The exam is tentatively scheduled for 4 July 2026 (Paper I) and 5 July 2026 (Paper II). The TET certificate awarded upon qualifying is valid for lifetime as per NCTE norms and TRB guidelines.

Clearing TN TET is now mandatory for promotions, regularisation, and continued service in Tamil Nadu government and aided schools, in line with Supreme Court directives and Government Orders issued by the Tamil Nadu Government.

TN TET 2026 Application Form

The application for TN TET 2026 (Working Teachers) must be submitted online only at trb.tn.gov.in. No offline applications will be accepted. Working teachers can apply for Paper I, Paper II, or both, but must submit separate applications and pay fees separately for each paper. TNTET Selection Process 2026

The selection process for TN TET 2026 (Working Teachers) consists of a single stage- the written examination. There is no interview round or any additional assessment stage for this exam.

The TN TET 2026 written exam will be conducted in offline (OMR-based) mode on the dates specified by TRB. Two separate papers will be conducted- Paper I for teachers of Classes I to V and Paper II for teachers of Classes VI to VIII. Candidates must appear for the paper relevant to the class they are currently teaching. The exam tests subject knowledge, child development and pedagogy, and language proficiency.

Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination will be awarded the TET Eligibility Certificate, which is valid for lifetime. This certificate is a mandatory requirement for promotions, regularisation, and continued service as a teacher in Tamil Nadu government and aided schools.

Note: Unlike some other competitive exams, TN TET does not have an interview round. Selection is purely based on performance in the written exam.

TNTET Admit Card 2026

The TN TET 2026 Admit Card will be released on the official website trb.tn.gov.in before the examination. Candidates who have successfully registered for TN TET 2026 can download their admit card by visiting the official website and logging in with their registration number and date of birth.
