The University of Mumbai established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses in 1971-72 which was renamed as the ‘Institute of Distance Education’ in 1993. Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for the first year B.A at IDOL:
Must have completed 10+ 2 from Maharashtra State Board or equivalent Exam from other states
Must have English as a compulsory subject in 10+ 2
Candidate with 3 years diploma from MSBTE or other equivalent recognised boards are also eligible to apply

Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for Second Year B.A at University of Mumbai IDOL:
Must have passed/ ATKT in F.Y.B.A
ATKT in F.Y.B.A are also eligible to apply. Allowed to Keep Term (ATKT) allows candidates to take admission in second year if the student has not failed in more than subjects in First and Second Semester
Candidate from other universities must have passed in all the subjects in F.Y.B.A

University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning S.Y. B.Com (Second Year B.Com) Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for Second Year B.Com at University of Mumbai IDOL:
- Must have passed in F.Y.B.Com
- ATKT candidates are also eligible to apply. The candidate must not have failed in more than two subjects in F.Y.B.Com to be eligible to enroll in Second Year B.Com
- Candidate from other universities must have passed in all the subjects in F.Y.B.Com
- Student of the F.Y.BMS / F.Y.B.A.F. / F.Y.B.B.I / F.Y.B.F.M. program can also enroll in Second year B.Com program
- Student of the F.Y.B.B.I / F.Y.B.F.M can also be enrolled in Second year B.Com. In this case, the student must study the subject Foundation Course paper I of the First-year and pass in all the subjects
University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning F.Y. B.Com (Third Year B.Com) Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for Third Year B.Com at University of Mumbai IDOL
- Must have passed in F.Y.B.Com and S.Y.B.Com
- ATKT candidates are also eligible to apply. The candidate must not have failed in more than two subjects in F.Y. B.Com and must have cleared all the subjects in S.Y. B.Com or vice versa
- Candidate from other universities must have passed in all the subjects in F.Y.B.Com and S.Y.B.Com
University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning F.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for F.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) at the University of Mumbai IDOL:
- Must have passed Class 12th
- The compulsory subjects in Class 12th is Mathematics

University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning S.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for S.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) at the University of Mumbai IDOL:
- Must have passed in F.Y.B. Sc. IT
- ATKT candidates are also eligible to apply
- Candidates who have passed three years diploma from any recognized state and central board are and passed in all subjects of F.Y.B.Sc. (IT) and failed with not more than 200 marks from University of Mumbai No. UG/235 of 2005 can also apply
Admission in Semester III:
- The candidate who have passed semester I and semester II can apply for Semester III
- Students failed in the combination of Theory and / or practical in Semester I or Semester II or together can apply. The total marks should not exceed 200
Admission in Semester IV:
- Students, irrespective of the number of failures in the third semester are eligible to enroll in the fourth semester. However, they must clear semester I and II.
University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning T.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for T.Y.B.Sc (I. T.) at the University of Mumbai IDOL:
- Must have passed in all the subjects of FY B. Sc. (IT) and failed in not more than 200 marks.
- Candidate from other universities must have passed in all subjects of F. Y B. Sc. (IT) and S.Y. B. Sc. (IT) or equivalent examination SY B.Sc. (IT) from the University of Mumbai. No. UG/235 of 2005
Admission in Semester V
- The student must have passed Semester III and Semester IV
- The student fails in a combination of theory and / or practical taken in Semester III or Semester IV or together, where the total marks do not exceed 200.
Admission in Semester VI:
- Students, irrespective of the number of failures in the fourth semester are eligible to enroll in the sixth semester. However, they must clear semester III, IV and V.

Following are the eligibility criteria to apply for F.Y.B.Sc (Computer Science) at the University of Mumbai IDOL:
- Must have passed in Class XII
- Must have taken Science in XII with Mathematics or equivalent as the compulsory subjects

University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning Admission Process
Following are the important points related to the Admission process at the University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning:
Students who are planning to take admission in First Year B. A./ B. Com./ B. Sc. or First-Year MA/ M.com/ M. Sc. must submit the online application form. The online application form is available at the official website of the university from the first week of July. Students must ensure that they fill the online application before the deadline date.
Students who are planning to take admission in the second year must collect the admission form from IDOL, Vidyanagari Campus. Fill and submit the form in offline mode.
Students who are planning to take admission in MCA programme must undertake the entrance examination. The examination is conducted in the month of June and the form for the examination is available in the month of May. The eligibility criteria to get admission in MCA programme is as follows:
- Graduate with minimum of 45% marks.
- Must have Mathematics as the compulsory subject in XII

- The validity of admission at the University of Mumbai Institute of Distance & Open Learning is 5 years. If a student appeared for the respective exam then it is valid for a lifetime.
- Students from other universities must submit Tc and Migration certificate within two months after the confirmation of admission
- The examination for IDOL course is conducted in the month of March/ April for all the courses except B. Sc. IT, M.Sc. IT and MCA courses. These examinations for these courses are conducted semester- wise
Required Documents
Following are the documents required to complete the admission process:
- Students are enrolled for admission in First Year course must submit the original documents of HSC at the university. They can collect the documents after the results of the same academic year is declared.
- Students who have a gap in their studies need not submit the gap certificate
- A work experience certificate is required for PGDORM course
