How to Choose Your Target Exam for BDes
I know you might be confused about which exam you need to take for low BDes college admission. Let's understand one by one:
Choose NIFT if:
- Choose NIFT if you're specifically interested in fashion, textile, or apparel design
- Or you want the most affordable option (some NIFTs charge only Rs 2.8 lakhs total)
- You can also choose it if you prefer multiple campus options across India
Choose UCEED if:
- You want the IIT brand value
- You're good at both creative and analytical thinking ( which is very important )
- Only choose UCEED if you're okay with Rs 8-10 lakhs in fees for better placement prospects
Choose NID DAT if:
- You want the absolute best design education
- You're serious about design as a career
- You can afford Rs 16-17 lakhs for 4 years
- You're willing to work extra hard (toughest exam)
Can Apply to All Three: In order to maximise their chances, a majority of students apply to all three examinations. Since the days for each test do not interrupt one another, a student may attempt to take all three.
Important Points to Remember
Check here some of the important points you need to remember before filling out the entrance exam forms:
- Age Limit: For most exams, the stipulation is that one should be either 23 or 24 by the admission test date. NIFT accepts candidates under the age of 24, while the maximum age limit at NID is 23.
- Reservation Benefits: If you're from the OBC/SC/ST/PwD category, your required cutoff is much lower. Use this advantage!
- Multiple Attempts: You can attempt these exams every year, so if you don't make it this year, prepare better and try again.
- Course Availability: Only a few IITs offer some of the specialisations. Check which campuses offer your desired courses and make your choice by checking this out.
- Location Matters for Fees: Government colleges in lower cities (Tier 2/3) have lower fees and living expenses. Factor in accommodation costs too when calculating total expenses.
True reality is that government BDes colleges are worthwhile targeting since they provide an excellent education at 1/5 of what a private college would charge for the same course. NIFT is the main target - with 19 campuses, it gives you plenty of options; UCEED can gain admission into reputed IITs, while NID is the dream if one is prepared to slog it out. Begin preparations immediately; practice drawing daily, hone your design thinking, and enrol for as many exams as you can to maximise chances. With the right kind of preparation and realistic target setting, one can definitely find their way into a world-class BDes college charging small fees. All the best!
